Iason, who is sterile and forbidden from even egaging in sexual relations, does the unthinkable, and falls in love with his slave (or "pet," as they are euphemistically referred to in this series). Although most of his peers typically keep a pet for a brief amount of time, Iason keeps Riki for three whole years.
