Reese Witherspoon to combat violence against women Hello I'm Rebecca Field with today's UPI entertainment update on this Wednesday, March 5, 2008. Actress and activist Reese Witherspoon is working to combat violence against women. She was at the UN yesterday to announce a fundraising plan with the cosmetic company Avon. Witherspoon is Avon's Global Ambassador. The actress unveiled the women's empowerment bracelet...which Witherspoon says will be a "sign of solidarity and hope" to end violence. One hundred percent of the bracelet's profits will go to help women. A new reality show about the Lohan family is set to debut this summer. E! says it will air a series following around Lindsay's mom Dina called "Living Lohan." It will reportedly follow her and her other children; 20 year old Michael, 14 year old Ali and 11 year old Cody. The show will specifically focus on Ali's hopes to...like her sister...become a singer and actress. Anna Nicole Smith's daughter Dannielynn has been named the sole heir of her estate. A Los Angeles made it official yesterday. Smith died last year of an accidental drug overdose. The judge also ruled Smith's former boyfriend Howard K. Stern and Dannielynn's father Larry Birkhead will be co-trustees. The toddler could inherit millions of dollars from Smith's late husband...who's fortune is still being disputed in court. Country star Kenny Chesney is racking up the nominations for the Academy of Country Music Awards. The singer grabbed 12 nods...including entertainer of the year and top male vocalist. Trailing behind Chesney are Rodney Atkins who took 6 nominations and Brad Paisley and Big & Rich and Sugarland with 4. Winners will be announced on May 18. Donald Trump's daughter Ivanka showed off her golf skills at an event in New York yesterday. The businesswoman joined golf player Morgan Pressel to host a luncheon introducing a new women's line of Callaway golf clubs called gems. Trump, who's the Vice President of real estate development and acquisitions for the Trump organization, tells E! News as her father once said...she finds golf to be a very important business tool. Jimmy Witherspoon, Ain't nobody's business Live from Maribor Slovenia, lent festival, 1997, John Lee Sanders, Piano, Frank Folgmann, Guitar Brian Abrahams, drums Michael Riley, trumpet Spoon had just flown into Vienna from LA a few hours before, and then an 8 hour drive to Slovenia for this festival. He had just recovered from throat cancer, and you can hear the pain in his voice. In the 40s and 50s this man was king of the blues, he recorded with the greats, Coleman Hawkins, Ben Webster, Gerry Mulligan, he was the bridge of the southern bluesmen, to the Hip west coast Jazz blues scene of the 40s and 50s and it was a great honor to play with him. I called him 2 weeks after this show, and we really hit it off, he said I reminded him of Ben Webster on Tenor Sax, which was a thrill. He wanted to bring me on his next tour which was to be in Greece, The next week after our conversation, while driving home from a gig, it was announced he had passed away that day. I'll always treasure this concert, and am thankful for this video footage for history. When he sang "Going down slow" there was a line that says "When you see my mother, tell her to pray for me" I got goose bumps and felt the presence of the Lord, I talked to him about it after the show, and he said he felt the same experience.
