WLKY-TV 1997: "Good To The Last Drop" tornado coverage From 1997...the tornado coverage that would not stop from WLKY-TV. Long after the other stations had resumed regular programming, "32 For You" hammered on with a round robin of reports that made no sense at all, gave no new information, and assurances that they would "stay on the air until every warning had expired". This is an example of "weather overkill" and should be a textbook study case for all of those gung ho assignment editors and news producers/directors that think that being the last one to sign off is a good thing. This particular station did an admirable job of providing the public with critical information during the height of the storms, but the last 6 or 7 minutes that I have posted here helped make that be easily forgotten. Anchors Rick Vanhoose and Vicki Dortch and meteorologist Kevan Ramer don't have anything new to say, so we send it to poor Liz Everman in the newsroom, who is reduced to asking...well almost begging for an answer to save her from the misery of this torture...if lightning is dangerous. I'm not sure if the silence the first time she asked it was because everyone was asleep, or because they couldn't believe this question had been asked. Rule of thumb for those in TV land...if you have nothing intelligent to say, go back to regular programming. Tags: WLKY TV SEVERE WEATHER COVERAGE HUMOR |

WLKY-TV 1989: "Gotta Have Hart" promos In 1989, WLKY-TV ran a series of promos for the incoming meteorologist Wayne Hart. They decided to play on his last name, and have a little fun with it. The series of promos started out with a couple of "teasers" featuring hints at what was to come with a mask and a seductive female voice. The real fun began with the "dream sequence" promo that definitely deserved an award for most creative local promo of 1989, the "music video" promo that featured a marching band and the Louisville orchestra along with a cool car, and a military promo that was just really unusual to say the least. Whether you like them or hate them, they are a part of Louisville TV history, and they have been "buried" in the "video vault" for far too long (probably where some would have hoped they remained).
