The Hebrew Yeshua vs. the Greek Jesus The name Jesus is the modern English translation from the Greek Iesous, which comes from the Hebrew name Yeshua. The letter "J" wasn't invented until about 500yrs. ago, so the Messiah couldn't have had a "J" in His original name. We still use the letter "J" today as part of our language, which is fine. I like to use the name of Jesus, and I grew up with using that name. Now, I prefer to use the name Yeshua (His hebrew name) in order to show that He was a Jew who kept torah and to help people understand the Hebrew perspective about who He was. Also, I believe it is His original Hebrew name.
