The significance of these private conversations was that they enabled Alan to be aware of the truth of what leaders really believed and feared as opposed to what they said in public for propaganda and myth-sustaining purposes. It was because of his special relationships with leaders on both sides that, in 1980, Alan found himself sucked into the covert diplomacy of conflict resolution. President Carter had been prevented by Prime Minister Begin from involving the PLO in the peace process, an opening made possible because Arafat had signalled, secretly and seriously, that he was ready to make peace with an Israel inside more or less its pre-1967 borders. Carter was in despair and said, in private, that events had once again proved that it was impossible to advance the peace process by institutional diplomacy (because of the pork-barrel nature of American politics and the Zionist lobby's awesome influence). It was then suggested to AH that he should undertake an unofficial, covert diplomatic mission to get an exploratory dialogue going between Arafat and Peres, with AH initially the linkman. The assumption at the time was that Peres would win Israel's next election and deny Begin a second term.... The initiative was funded by a small number of wealthy British Jews led by Marcus Sieff (the Chairman of Marks and Spencer) with the approval of Lord Victor Rothschild.... It happened and enough progress was made to get Peres and Arafat into public dialogue in the event of Peres winning the 1981 election. Unfortunately, and against all expectations, he did not. (Full story of this initiative in Chapter 35 - The Blood Oath). In the course of this mission AH learned two things. The first was the truth about the miracle of Arafat's leadership - his success in persuading his side (most of it) to be ready for unthinkable compromise with Israel for peace. (Which was why Alan wrote his first book). The second was why it is difficult to impossible for any Israeli prime minister, even a rational, well-motivated one, to make peace on any terms the Palestinians can accept. A decade later, Alan's initiative became the Oslo process, which might have delivered peace if Prime Minister Rabin had not been assassinated by a gut-Zionist. Alan has long believed that what peacemaking needs above all else is some TRUTH-TELLING, about many things but, especially, the difference between Zionist mythology and real history, and, the difference between Jews and Judaism on the one hand and Zionists and Zionism on the other. Istanbul Conference on Apartheid Zionism: 100% Success Istanbul, Turkey, November 17, 2007, The 3-day conference held by participants representing more than 65 members of the United Nations concluded this evening with the participants issuing their "Istanbul Declaration." In its declaration, the conference called Jerusalem (Al Quds) an international city of peace which belongs to all people (Christians, Muslims, and Jews.) The declaration called on the Apartheid Zionist entity that captured Jerusalem in 1967 to stop building the separation wall which is attempting to incorporate the occupied Jerusalem into the territories the Zionists had captured and occupied earlier, in 1948. The conference declaration called the separation wall a "racist" barrier. The wall tends to separate the captured homes farms villages with Zionist Jews on one side and the less fertile lands (generally without water) to non-Zionists. The participants discussed the fanatic absurdity of the principle on which bases Israel was established and based on which is refusing to give up the homes farms and villages it has captured since 1948 through the use of violence and brute force. According to the participants, the Zionist entity claims that "2,000 years ago GOD gave them ALL the lands they now occupy." However, several of the participants noted that in ALL legal systems in existence throughout history, from China to the United States and from Russia to Chile, real estate laws require that anyone who claims an ownership in a piece of land must produce a deed (a legal document) that bears the original signature of the grantor (the original rightful owner who transferred the ownership rights to the new owner). Participants dismissed the Zionists' claim to the land as invalid since Zionists are not able to produce a document bearing the grantor's (God's) original signature giving them the territories they have captured by force. Another conference member noted that the World would have to remain in an indefinite state of war and violence if some of the older nations of the World wished to lay claim to their borders of 2,000 years ago. For example, it was argued that Iran (Persia) could lay claim to all the lands between the Western borders of China and Bulgaria since this was the land that Iranians (Persians) controlled 2,000 years ago. Several of the Jewish participants rejected the claim that Zionists were Jews. They noted that in fact Zionists' principle of creating a nation in which only the Jews can be its citizens and that all other human beings of non-Jews backgrounds (even the native inhabitants) have to be expelled is a racist idea that has to do less with Jewish teachings and is more in line with the Apartheid system that existed in South Africa. One participant noted that the United States had supported establishment of the Zionist State in 1948 as a military outpost to confront the expanding USSR at the time even though it knew the idea behind Zionism (laying "God Given" 2,000-year-old claims to lands occupied by the native inhabitants) was religious fanaticism in its most extreme form and basically absurd. President Carter had been prevented by Prime Minister Begin from involving the PLO in the peace process, an opening made possible because Arafat had signalled, secretly and seriously, that he was ready to make peace with an Israel inside more or less its pre-1967 borders. Carter was in despair and said, in private, that events had once again proved that it was impossible to advance the peace process by institutional diplomacy (because of the pork-barrel nature of American politics and the Zionist lobby's awesome influence). It was then suggested to AH that he should undertake an unofficial, covert diplomatic mission to get an exploratory dialogue going between Arafat and Peres, with AH initially the linkman. The assumption at the time was that Peres would win Israel's next election and deny Begin a second term.... The initiative was funded by a small number of wealthy British Jews led by Marcus Sieff (the Chairman of Marks and Spencer) with the approval of Lord Victor Rothschild.... It happened and enough progress was made to get Peres and Arafat into public dialogue in the event of Peres winning the 1981 election. Unfortunately, and against all expectations, he did not. (Full story of this initiative in Chapter 35 - The Blood Oath). In the course of this mission AH learned two things. The first was the truth about the miracle of Arafat's leadership - his success in persuading his side (most of it) to be ready for unthinkable compromise with Israel for peace. (Which was why Alan wrote his first book). The second was why it is difficult to impossible for any Israeli prime minister, even a rational, well-motivated one, to make peace on any terms the Palestinians can accept. A decade later, Alan's initiative became the Oslo process, which might have delivered peace if Prime Minister Rabin had not been assassinated by a gut-Zionist. Alan has long believed that what peacemaking needs above all else is some TRUTH-TELLING, about many things but, especially, the difference between Zionist mythology and real history, and, the difference between Jews and Judaism on the one hand and Zionists and Zionism on the other.
