Modern Day Slavery: Racism and the Drug War Slavery is defined as the act of keeping a person as a piece of property. If you ask the average American if slavery still exists in America, their answer is likely to be no. After watching this video, many will change their minds. As the crack epidemic flooded inner cities across the country, in 1986 Reagan's "Anti-Drug Abuse Act" makes the penalty for crack possession a hundred times harsher than that of powder cocaine. The following year new legislation is passed allowing private corporations to own and operate prisons. Twenty years later over a million non-violent drug offenders are imprisoned while corporate stocks are traded based on how many prisoners are in the cages. A report released in 2008 by the International Center for Prison Studies at King's College London states that the United States has the highest incarceration rate and most people behind bars per capita in the world. Over 50% of these people are imprisoned for drug crimes. At the same time, prescription drug companies account for over 50% of Fortune 500 profits. All illegal drugs combined kill approx 11K per year while cigarettes, alcohol and pharmaceutical kill almost a million. What's wrong with this picture? Medical Magic Mushrooms UCLA's Dr. Charles Grob discusses his research into the psychiatric and medical uses of psilocybin, also known as magic mushrooms, and cancer victim Pam Sakuda relates her feelings on why hallucinogens are kept from the public. Related: A medical use for magic mushrooms - Johns Hopkins researchers reported in 2006 that the hallucinogen psilocybin, otherwise known as the sacred mushroom, caused a profound mystical experience in the majority of a group of 36 volunteers who took the drug in a laboratory setting. Two years later, the researchers re-interviewed the volunteers and found that the spiritual effects of the experience appear to last for more than a year. - http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/booster_shots/2008/07/a-medical-use-f.html This video is a clip from AMERICAN DRUG WAR: the last white hope - http://www.americandrugwar.com Tags: shrooms psilocybe cubensis johns hopkins journal psychiatry prescription drugs pharmaceutical marijuana liberty |

The Post-9/11 Afghan Heroin Explosion The War on Drugs. The War on Terror. Narco-Terrorism. Prior to 9/11, the poppy production levels in Afghanistan were at a low and many of the Taliban were against heroin and the opium poppies. However, since U.S. forces entered after 9/11, the poppy crop has skyrocketed. The UN has reported that the six-year boom has lead to the Afghan crop being responsible for 92% of the world's heroin trade. With Homeland Security and the War on Terror, it's amazing that the drug still gets into the USA, one of it's strongest marketplaces. http://www.theage.com.au/world/afghanistan-drug-trade-hits-4-billion-a-year-20080627-2y43.html This video is a clip from American Drug War: http://www.AmericanDrugWar.com http://myspace.com/AmericanDrugWar http://AmericanDrugWar.blogspot.com http://www.facebook.com/pages/American-Drug-War-The-Last-White-Hope/8793266950 Tags: drugs politics news war on afghanistan heroin opium poppy crop production taliban al qaeda bush clinton documentary |
