Chuck Stanley - My All And All 1987 Chuck Stanley signed to the New York-based Def Jam Records (via CBS), Chuck made his debut in 1987 with 'The Finer Things In Life'. The album included the duet with Alyson Williams entitled 'Make You Mine Tonight' along with the fine ballad 'Never Gonna Let You Go' (popular in the U.K.). Album Reviewby Andrew Hamilton Some good sides, but not the Detroit natives' strongest effort. Ron Banks and L. J. Reynolds divide the production chores among ped on promotion cause The Finer Things In Life should have made more noise. The title cut is a nonstop groove, spiced with some clever lyrics. "Jammin' To The Bells" put the P in party, a monster in New York, it did well wherever it received air play. Chuck's a biting tenor who slides effortlessly into falsetto for effect. Chart nester, "Day By Day" is all falsetto."Real Soon," grabs and holds you as Chuck sings about finding his soul mate-REAL SOON, some tasty guitar licks are added for seasoning. The backing vocals are magnificent throughout, his duet with Alyson Williams on the romantic, "Make You Mine Tonight," gets better with time. Starpoint - Satisfy Me Lover 1984 From the 1984 Album 'It's All yours' Sorry for the All Night Long CD cover _____ Originally they called themselves Licyndiana (made up from the first few letters of each of the group's sister's Christian names!), but soon changed it because no one could understand or pronounce it. After building a reputation on the club scene, they were signed by Casablanca (after three previous outings) in 1982 for 'All Night Long', including 'Bring Your Sweet Lovin' Back' and 'Get Your Body Up'. Their follow-up was 'It's So Delicious' for the Boardwalk label in 1983. From here they switched to Elektra where they have scored chart success in America with-out making a major impression in the UK. Their Elektra albums have been 'It's All Yours' (1984), 'Restless' (1985), including 'Objects Of My Desire' and 'Emotions', 'Sensational' (1987) and 'Have You Got What It Takes' (1990). Ernesto Phillips sadly passed away in 2004 as the result of a stroke. Renee Diggs has also worked as a backing singer with artists including James Ingram and Bob James. She recorded a solo release "Oasis" back in 1994, that finally saw the light of day in 2000 on the U.K. based Expansion label. Renée Diggs passed away in 2005. Sharon Bryant - Falling 1989 From Sharon's Solo Album Here I Am 1989 Biography by Ron Wynn New York vocalist Sharon Bryant joined Atlantic Starr in the late '70s, and her declarative, sensual voice helped make them a major act after they signed with A&M in 1979. She was featured on such hits as "When Love Calls" and "Circles," both of which were Top Ten R&B singles. Bryant departed the group in 1984, and married Rick Gallaway, a former Change member. She did some session work before cutting her own LP for Wing in 1989, Here I Am. It didn't generate much action, though the single "Foolish Heart" was well received. Miki Howard - Crazy 1988 From the 1988Album "Love Confessions" Biography by Craig Lytle Miki Howard grew up in the church, where both of her parents were gospel singers. Her mother was also a member of the gospel group the Caravans and was acquainted with various entertainers. Howard's mother would take her to the homes of various stars such as Aretha Franklin and Mavis Staples. While still in elementary school, Howard moved to Los Angeles with her mom. At the age of 15, she performed in a teen pageant. After the show, she met Side Effect member Augie Johnson, who happened to be in the audience and began working with Howard creatively. After a period of time, Howard became a Side Effect member -- upon the departure of Sylvia St. James. Howard's tenure with the group lasted a few years. During this time, she also had two children by Johnson. In addition to singing with Side Effect, she did background vocals for Wayne Henderson, Roy Ayers, Stanley Turrentine, and several other artists. After leaving Side Effect, Howard signed a deal with Atlantic. Her first hit for the label was the Billboard R&B Top Ten single "Come Share My Love." She followed that with the remake of Glenn Miller's 1940 hit "Imagination." Her success continued with two more Top Ten singles, "Baby Be Mine" and "That's What Love Is." The latter was a duet with Gerald Levert and was the result of the creative union Howard formed with Marc Gordon and Levert. Howard and Levert later became romantically involved, and that romance spawned one of Howard's biggest hits, "Love Under New Management." The song was written during their brief love affair, but was released after their romance had dissolved. In 1990, Howard signed a deal with Giant, which facilitated the release of her number one smash hit "Ain't Nobody Like You." Howard's lifeline at Giant was cut short due to an altercation her husband had at the label. She also made an appearance as Billie Holiday in a club scene in the Spike Lee movie Malcom X. Howard continued to issue albums throughout the '90s and early 2000s, a few of them heavy on -- or wholly reliant upon -- covers. Her releases during these years included Femme Fatale (1992), Shining Through (1993), Live Plus (1996), Can't Count Me Out (1997), Three Wishes (2001), and Pillow Talk (2006).
