Mike Huckabee wants to replace the Constitution Mike Huckabee isn't satisfied to live in America, unless it's a theocracy. He has this problem of understanding all too well how this nation works: not to his liking. Specifically, not how he things god wants it to run. Here he is extolling how the Constitution should be changed to fall more in line with "god's standards." He was referring to blatantly discriminating amendments to the Constitution defining marriage as between a man and a woman, and a ban on abortion. However, would it ever stop at that? If we're going to supplant our Constitution for that of the bible in those two regards, we can't but help supplant it for the bible in all regards. No more separation of powers. No more representative democracy. No more trial by jury. No more freedom of speech. In fact, no more freedom of thought, even. No more freedom of the press or petition for redress. No more protection from cruel and unusual punishment. No more secularism. No more freedom of religion. No more equality of all people under the law. And, most ironically, no more change through process of amendment. Welcome to Huckabee's America: where you have no rights at all, unless you're an evangelical protestant Christian, and even then you're treated as a sinful waste of existence with nothing left to do but appeal to the omni-judge for forgiveness of things you've never done. And if you happen to be something other than an evangelical protestant, like say a Catholic, Methodist, Lutheran, or even those radical choices of Judaism, Hindu, Islam, Wiccan, or a plain ol' unbelieving atheist or agnostic -- congratulations: You have no rights. You don't exist. You will be shunned, segregated (2 Corinthians 6:14-17), and killed by stoning (Deuteronomy 13:6-10). Enjoy. Four Horsemen: Mystery in Science and Faith From The Four Horsemen, available at the Richard Dawkins Foundation (http://richarddawkins.net/) This clip entails Richard Dawkins, Dan Dennett, Sam Harris, and Christopher Hitchens discussing the general difference between how science treats the unknown or the non-intuitive, and how religion treats mysteries. The difference is simple: science shows it's work. It has evidence backing up absolutely ~everything~ it puts forth. And that evidence has been put through the most rigorous examination of any process created by humans, and still that evidence is considered tentative with the full acknowledgment that future evidence could overturn it. Scientists readily admit there are many things they don't know. That is not a problem, nor a flaw. They're simply open questions that are being worked on. Religion treats mysteries as attempts to lull the gullible into believing fictions with inerrancy. It treats them as tools for instilling and consolidating more power and control. Four Horsemen: Science and Authority From The Four Horsemen, available at the Richard Dawkins Foundation (http://richarddawkins.net/) This clip entails Richard Dawkins, Dan Dennett, Sam Harris, and Christopher Hitchens discussing how science actually works. Science is not simply a secular religion that works by decree. Science is tested, over and over and over, to extreme degrees, and those hypothesis that don't pass that testing are removed. It actually makes predictions, and is held accountable to those predictions. Religion has nothing comparable, and is indeed the exact opposite of science. Religion is systematically incomprehensible, and deliberately designed to be immune to refutation. It's all wishful thinking, based on faith, and any prophecy made is easily shown to be false (and subsequently pushed further along to a later time) or a generalized nonsense that your horoscope would put forth. Four Horsemen: Dogmatism From The Four Horsemen, available at the Richard Dawkins Foundation (http://richarddawkins.net/) This clip entails Richard Dawkins, Dan Dennett, Sam Harris, and Christopher Hitchens discussing how dogma can come about from the smallest and most trivial seeming of cases, to be deadly to so many people. The example of stem cells is a great one here in showing how adhering to ridiculous notions can prolong the suffering of millions, and delay the very real possibility of many medical breakthroughs, treatments, and even cures. Four Horsemen: Should atheists be evenhanded? From The Four Horsemen, available at the Richard Dawkins Foundation (http://richarddawkins.net/) This clip entails Richard Dawkins, Dan Dennett, Sam Harris, and Christopher Hitchens discussing whether or not all religions should be treated with the same evenhanded criticism, or whether there should be obvious exceptions in comparisons, such as the Jains vs. radical Islam. For me personally, they all largely get to my own feelings on this topic. All religions are fundamentally equal glimpses of the same untruth, no matter how pacifistic they are. They all entail the surrender of reason to supernatural thinking that is not warranted and has no basis. But at the same time, there are obviously some cases a bit more important to deal with first. I don't share Hitchens' approval for the Iraq War, but I do recognize that of major dangers in the world fundamentalist Islam is up there, along with the same fundamentalist of Christianity and even Judaism, while the Amish likely aren't a problem for now. God and the Hitler Oath A brief clip from "Hitler: Tyrant of Terror" showing Nazis in World War II swearing via god their allegiance to Hitler. This video is in no way intended to support Nazism or anti-Semitism, but instead, intends to warn against them. The crimes of the Nazi regime are horrendous in history and well known, and anyone posting acclaim, support, or such about them will have such comments deleted immediately. The other purpose is to dispel the idea that Hitler was an atheist or that Nazism was an atheistic ideology. It's quite ironic that such propaganda is put out regarding the pinnacle example of a propagandist ideology. Hitler was not an atheist, but was in all likelihood an Occultist. However you want to term his beliefs, they were based on the notion that there was a supernatural existence. In sum: Hitler was religious, but it was an amalgamation of various occult beliefs and other religions to form his own. As Hitler said in April, 1933: "Secular schools can never be tolerated because such schools have no religious instruction, and a general moral instruction without religious foundation is built on air; consequently all character training and religion must be derived from faith..." Also, from Hitler's speech in October, 1933: "We were convinced that the people need and require this faith. We have therefore undertaken the fight against the atheistic movement, and that not merely with a few theoretical declarations: we have stamped it out." Moreover, the Nazi ideology never practiced anything close to the separation of church and state. Hitler's Brown Army attended churches en masse; Wehrmacht soldiers (the unified armed forces of Germany) wore "God With Us" (Gott mit uns) on their belt buckles; Catholic and Protestant churches gave support to the Nazi regime; the Third Reich had a version of the bible (complete with ~12~ commandments) called "Germans with God" and distributed to German churches in 1941. Finally, the acts ordered by Hitler and carried out by others were not done because of atheism. They were done as means of consolidating and keeping power in the hands of a narcissistic madman, and a fooled populous led by a core of die-hard believers who can only be described as dogmatic. Moronic priest talks about atheism on Fox News This guy is simply laughable in his arguments. But what else to be expected on Fox News? Originally from One Good Move: http://onegoodmove.org/1gm/1gmarchive/2007/06/father_jonathan.html The most obvious case in this is his first point: atheism in it's weakest sense does not say there is not a god. Atheism is simply the lack of theistic belief. An atheist is not primarily a person who believes that a god does ~not~ exist, rather ~does not~ believe in the existence of a god. It's that simple. Atheists always leave open the possibility there is this weird cosmic thing-a-ma-jig, we simply demand some evidence before believing in such. None has come forward that hasn't been thoroughly refuted. Suffer your atheism? What does this even mean? Oh, the simple declaration that the world makes more sense if god exists. Maybe in terms of "It's easier to teach, therefore is true." But even this is pathetic -- just try to give a coherent explanation of the Trinity. Oh yeah, LOADS of sense from Christianity. As for atheism being elitist, I'm actually for that. What's wrong with being elitist, if you are trying to encourage people to join the elite rather than being exclusive? I somehow doubt that is what the priest was trying to convey. Next, if this guy is going to idiotically claim the eye is an example of evidence for a creator, he obvious has NOT read The God Delusion, nor really anything on the creation debate in 10 years. Some examples: "The anatomy of the human eye, in fact, shows anything but "intelligence" in its design. It is built upside down and backwards, requiring photons of light to travel through the cornea, lens, aqueous fluid, blood vessels, ganglion cells, amacrine cells, horizontal cells, and bipolar cells before they reach the light-sensitive rods and cones that transduce the light signal into neural impulses-- which are then sent to the visual cortex at the back of the brain for processing into meaningful patterns. -Michael Shermer, Why Darwin Matters: The Case Against Intelligent Design" For more of this, see these videos: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ybWucMx4W8 -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=furcepFlfZ4 And here: http://www.embl.org/aboutus/news/press/2004/press28oct04.html -- http://www.talkorigins.org/indexcc/CB/CB301.html "Geological reality?" Again, what does this mean? Geology is one of the major fields of study that fundamentally disprove the creationist world view. See here for such topics: http://www.talkorigins.org/indexcc/list.html#CD The birth of a child? A biological reality. There's a miracle in this? It surely is a terrific thing, but I seem to recall that if something is utterly common, it's not a miracle. Not to mention Christianity's own insane confusion between the sanctity of life, and their utter disgust and contempt at the mechanism of how that's brought about (sex). Yet more "sense" from religion: can't even tell you what's sacred and what is profane without getting very confused. 90% of people believe in god -- so what? Routinely, around 30-40% of the American population says they believe the earth is 6-10,000 years old. 48% reject evolution -- http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17879317/site/newsweek/ 41% of people think Iraq was linked to 9/11 (I wonder what the overlap is with Fox News viewers). Simply because something is popular does not make it true. And if you think 90% of the US population being religious is reassuring, be afraid! The numbers are going down: http://www.edge.org/3rd_culture/paul07/paul07_index.html -- http://scienceblogs.com/denialism/2007/05/the_4th_largest_religion_no_re.php A big reason why seems to be that each successive generation in America gets progressively more and more secular: http://thestoneoftear.blogspot.com/2007/05/pew-gives-some-interesting-information.html How do you get 90% of Americans to agree on religion? When you indoctrinate them from a young age, it's quite simple.
