Buster Keaton Homage Buster Keaton, also known as 'The Great Stone Face', actor, writer, director of some of the most memorable films of the silent era. I became of fan of his since seeing The General at an old movie theater a long time ago. He did so many creative gags and the scope of some of his films is pretty extraordinary. The General supposedly has the most expensive shot of the whole silent film era. With his love of trains, he must of come close to using every train gag that could be thought of. On top of that, he performed all his own stunts, which still watching them today are some truly amazing feats. I had heard once he was pound for pound the strongest man in Hollywood. I could believe that. I can understand why some people prefer him over Chaplin (I'm not getting into that argument though). It does sadden me the fast decline his career took. He most likely would have left us with even more memorable films had he still had complete control over them. Once that happened his best work was behind him. It is refreshing to know his films are still watched and everyday someone new discovers him. So this is a quick homage to Buster with just a small taste of his stunts, gags and clips of his silent film work. The song is Classical Gas by Mason Williams. John Cusack in Quantum of Solace! Cusack is back as 007 to kick ass and take numbers as he seeks revenge on the ones responsible for killing his beloved woman Vespa. Ok, not really. This was just a followup to an earlier John Cusack/007 parody trailer I did. I didn't spend as much time on it as I probably should have (yes, I know you can spot Daniel Craig in some shots) But it kept me busy on a slow weekend. I think it still came out ok though. Flash Gordon Music Video A tribute video to the 1980 film Flash Gordon accompanied by the memorable title song by Queen. Topol, Melody Anderson, Brian Blessed, Timothy Dalton, Max von Sydow and Sam J. Jones as our hero Flash Gordon. The film is filled with cheesy dialogue, silly costumes and goofy special effects. This was one of those films I watched all the time when I was little, catching it everytime it played on TV. Years later watching it - I still get a kick out of it! Tags: Flash Gordon Queen Sam J. Holy Bat Trailer! - a la 'The Dark Knight' The Joker unleashes a wave of terror on Gotham City with demands that Batman unmask himself. Can Batman and the Boy Wonder stop him before being forced to reveal their secret identities???? Initially, I had planned on doing a direct parody of The Dark Knight trailer with Adam and the gang voicing their own lines - instead of just using the audio from the actual trailer, which more than enough spoofs of it have done. (No one can deliver a melodramatic line like Adam West). As I worked on this it started to morph into it's own story, which I thought was interesting and just followed it thru and disregarded adhering to the layout of the real trailer. I still used Hans Zimmer's score. It's somewhat similar to the story of The Dark Knight - in a roundabout way, but with the addition of the original shows goofy charm. A Die Hard Christmas with John McClane A montage to Die Hard 1 & 2 with the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. This started out as something I was playing around with before the holiday season, and then decided to actually finish it. The Fugitive Music Montage Bored on a cold weekend resulted in this montage of the film The Fugitive. The performances of Harrison Ford as Dr. Richard Kimble and Tommy Lee Jones as Marshal Samuel Gerard are a classic pairing and creates one of the best suspense films in recent memory, along with the talents of director Andrew Davis. It certainly has to rank as one of the best film adaptations based on a television show. I thought I would have a little fun with it as you could probably tell from the choice of music. Cusack..... John Cusack is 007! I had been talking with someone about the next Bond film Quantum of Solace and how we had high hopes for it. When the trailer for Casino Royale was first released I thought it was one of the best ones I had seen in a long time and really got me excited to see the film, which didn't disappoint. I had wanted to do a project using the trailer since. I've always been a fan of John Cusack, going back to his goofy 80's comedies. Somewhere along the way the idea of casting him as James Bond happened. I used quite a few of his films; Say Anything, Better Off Dead, High Fidelity, Grosse Pointe Blank.....I'm sure Cusack fans will be able to pick them out, along with Casino Royale and some selections of Pierce Bronson Bond outings.I had stopped working on this at several points and even thought of abadoning it, but finally picked it up and finished it. Fond Memories of Princess Leia The idea for this video came about after hearing several friends discuss who their first crush was. After Carrie Fisher's name was mentioned everyone seemed to agree that if she didn't fully qualify, she still holds a nostalgic place in their hearts. I suppose you could ask almost any male adolescent who had seen the original Star Wars films ('77-'83) from George Lucas when they were first released and who anxiously awaited each installment, many could pinpoint Princess Leia as when they first realized - "Hey! Girls don't have to be icky!" So this video was meant to be made from the perspective of those little innocent audience members who years ago watched the series not realizing they'd walk out with this infatuation for Princess Leia. And to this day re-watching the films they still recall that initial burst of fondness they discovered they had for her. I had only planned to show this to the friends who had that conversation and gave me the idea, but I imagine there must be so many other devoted Leia fans out there I decided to post it. Blues Brothers - 'Rawhide' Jake, Elwood & the Blues Brothers Band perform the theme from the television show 'Rawhide' at Bob's Country Bunker (where they have both 'country & western!'). I hadn't planned on doing another Blues Brothers video, but with the overwhelming positive reaction to the first one I did (it's always nice to hear from fellow Blues Brothers fans) I decided to do this followup. I always thought this was one of the best scenes in the film - among so many great ones. I still have yet ever seen an actual episode of Rawhide, but the theme song is great - or at least performed by Jake & Elwood. Plus the song gave me an opportunity to highlight the famous Bluesmobile. So for any of you Blues Brothers fans out there - Enjoy! Who knows, maybe I'll do a third Blues Brothers video at some point. It's A Wonderful Life Video Jimmy Stewart realizing it's A Wonderful Life with the help of Joey Ramone's version of the Louis Armstrong song 'Wonderful World'. I've always loved this version of the song and thought this would be a fun combo to work on. I've been a big fan of Jimmy Stewart and have seen practically all of his films. Typically when I'm asked what's my favorite movie I say It's a Wonderful Life. It's usually a satisfying answer to whoever asks and I genuinely love the film. I suppose alot of people look at it as an overly sappy, sentimental film (Capra-corn as some describe it). I'm always surprised at how dark and unsettling half the film is, but it makes the ending even more uplifting - at least for me. Escape from New York Tribute Video A music tribute video I made to Escape From New York. John Carpenter's 1981 cult film where Manhattan island has been turned into a maximum securtiy prison. Kurt Russell playing the one-eyed war hero turned convict Snake Plissken is still one of the coolest action heroes. I heard this is another film on Hollywood's remake list. I don't really have much confidence in that idea. The song is 'New York, New York' by Frank Sinatra - naturally. Jerry Lewis as James Bond! - Parody Trailer A trailer parody of Jerry Lewis as Secret Agent 007 James Bond. I was working on an another project and I got this idea. I tried to make it look like the old 1960's trailers with cheesy voiceovers and silly titles. Unfortunately, at the time I didn't have much to work with. So some of the elements work better than others. I used scenes from Dr. No, From Russia With Love and Goldfinger, along with various films starring Jerry Lewis. Cannonball Run Music Video Cannonball Run. That 1981 cross country racing all-star extravaganza! Fast cars, hot girls, Roger Moore parodying James Bond, Farrah philosophizing about trees, Sammy and Dino dressed as priests, Adrienne Barbeau in spandex, Jackie Chan making his American debut and Dom DeLuise in a superhero outfit! Ok, so it's not exactly an Oscar winning formula, but what the heck. This was one of those movies HBO would constantly run back in the 80's and I used to watch it all the time. In a weird nostalgic way I still enjoy it. So here's a Cannonball Run music video I made. The song is 'Crash' by The Primitives Tags: Cannonball Run Burt Reynolds Farrah Fawcett Dean Martin Sammy Davis Jr. Roger Moore race cars |
