ANOTHER WORLD: Frankie Dies (Stalker Storyline) Pt. 27 The firing of AW alumni Alice Barrett was a sad and devastating blow to the fans of "Another World" for it set in motion the decision to kill off the character that she had portrayed for seven years: the beloved Frankie Frame. Though brilliantly performed, the storyline is infamous for the controversy it sparked among the show's fans and the soap's executives as well as for the grisly violent way in which the character was murdered. The show never recovered from the loss of Frankie who, in many ways, represented the heart of the show. In Part 27, David Jordan is rushed to the hospital. Morgan senses Fax had a hand in his shooting. Sharlene learns from Lorna that Fax is the stalker and finds it beyond disbelief. Josie gains the upper hand and holds him at bay with his own gun. Fax knows that Josie is terrified of holding the gun and he distracts her with taunts until they're both struggling for the gun. Vicky confesses to Ryan at his grave that she was jealous of his time with and affection for her. She asks him to look after Frankie if she's frightened wherever they are. Jake listens, finding Vicky's concerns endearing.*** Sharlene thanks Felicia for what she did for Frankie's memorial. They bond over how they wished Sharlene could've been there and that Frankie wasn't gone. Sharlene asks Gabe if Fax Newman really is the monster that killed Frankie. Josie and Fax still struggle for the gun and Josie slips down a hole. Ozzie runs for help and Fax begins covering the hole where Josie fell. Michael and Donna speak of Rita feeling at ease over Chris' recovery as well as Vicky's visit to Ryan's grave. They leave together, clearly enjoying each other's company. Jake cuddles Vicky after they leave Ryan's gravesite. ***Here we're at least shown that Vicky had an affection for Frankie, inspite of their being at odds initially. When she tells Ryan she hopes they're both partners again wherever they are or it'd be too much for her to bear to have lost both of them, her love for Frankie feels real and rings true. It *almost* more than makes up for John Hudson's lack of remorse (almost!). The show never recovered from the loss of Frankie who, in many ways, represented the heart of the show. In Part 26, Rita learns that Fax is the one who assaulted her son Chris. Fax takes Josie to the train trestle to look for Ozzie. Josie informs him that everyone knows he is the stalker. He rants about how Blaire Baker "forced" him to kill to protect himself since he is "a great healer". Josie calls him a coward. Vicky goes to Ryan's grave with Jake and explains that she needs to talk to Ryan about Frankie, a person who he loved and cared about deeply. Joe fills Matt and Sophia on Fax being the stalker and on Chris Madison's assault. Gary, the police, and an ambulance find David Jordan shot at the jewelry store. David tells Gary that Josie is at the train trestle. Fax continues to rant and Josie tries to bait him by "agreeing" with him about how he can still do good as a doctor. Ozzie then mistakingly makes noise and while Fax is distracted, letting out a shot, Josie tries to overtake him and slugs him. Rita tries to make peace with Chris and wants to be close to him. Matt assures her that Chris is a fine gentleman. Joe fills Gabe in on Chris Madison and the shooting at the jewelry store. He urges Gabe to play down Josie's whereabouts for Sharlene's benefit. ANOTHER WORLD: Frankie Dies (Stalker Storyline) Pt. 25 The firing of AW alumni Alice Barrett was a sad and devastating blow to the fans of "Another World" for it set in motion the decision to kill off the character that she had portrayed for seven years: the beloved Frankie Frame. Though brilliantly performed, the storyline is infamous for the controversy it sparked among the show's fans and the soap's executives as well as for the grisly violent way in which the character was murdered. The show never recovered from the loss of Frankie who, in many ways, represented the heart of the show. In Part 25, Chris is rushed into the emergency room while Rita worries. Felicia spots Sharlene and gives her her condolensces about the loss of Frankie. Sharlene then gets light-headed. Gary shows up at the station and learns that Chris was beaten by Fax and that Josie is missing. As Fax prepares to take Josie and David Jordan out of the store, Josie tries to divert Fax so David can escape. Fax then lets out a shot. (recap) Chris is in the emergency room while Sharlene starts to faint while talking with Felicia. John catches her. Gary and Gabe learn that shots were fired at the jewelry store that Fax bought the gold chain at. Fax shoots and Jordan falls down. Fax blames Josie for "forcing him" to shoot Jordan. Fax then takes Josie out of the store when he hears the police approaching. Sharlene comes to and vents her grief over Frankie to John (a wonderful performance by Anna Holbrook). She tells John that Gregory is confused by what happened and could really use his father. She then asks where Josie is. Joe comes in and Sharlene asks if he's seen Josie. He responds that he hasn't but lets her know about Chris Madison's beating. Rita thanks Morgan for saving her son's life twice. ANOTHER WORLD: Frankie Dies (Stalker Storyline) Pt. 24 The firing of AW alumni Alice Barrett was a sad and devastating blow to the fans of "Another World" for it set in motion the decision to kill off the character that she had portrayed for seven years: the beloved Frankie Frame. Though brilliantly performed, the storyline is infamous for the controversy it sparked among the show's fans and the soap's executives as well as for the grisly violent way in which the character was murdered. The show never recovered from the loss of Frankie who, in many ways, represented the heart of the show. In Part 24, Michael dedicates the opening of the trauma center to the memory of Frankie. Fax attacks Chris and nearly beats him unconscious while Ozzie gets away. The phone rings and he tricks the jeweler, David Jordan, into revealing that Josie is down at the store. Rita receives accolades at the fundraiser but feels she's undeserving since she hired Fax Newman. Joe discovers Chris severely beaten and calls for an ambulance. Cass tries to comfort Sharlene. He urges her to attend the fundraiser. He also tells her that Josie should not post-pone her wedding to Gary. It's not what Frankie would've wanted. The jeweler, David Jordan, gives Josie the evidence she needs to arrest Fax. When he reveals that Lt. Sinclair is on his way over, Josie knows something's up since Gary is in Chicago. Fax is outside pointing a gun while looking inside at Josie and David. Chris is rushed to the emergency room where Rita becomes frantic for her son. Fax barges in at the jewelry store and holds Josie and David at gunpoint. He demands the customer list and receipt for the gold chain so he can dispose of them. He declares he is going to kill both of them. When she tells Fax to leave David out of this and that it's her that he wants since she knows he killed Frankie, Fax credits himself for killing the other three women (Blaire Baker, Yvette Lapointe and Courtney Evans). He claims Frankie put up a good fight while the other three were too easy to kill. He then tells her that out of all the girls he's killed, Josie is the prettiest. He invites her to run away with him. She unconvincingly agrees but he doesn't buy it, saying it's too bad things didn't work out between the two of them.*** ***It's interesting how talkative Fax is with Josie when he didn't utter ONE WORD when he killed Frankie or the other three women. I realize there was no way to have him speak during the prior murders since it would've revealed his identity to the audience, but come on, for consistency's sake and for continuity of his character, he goes from being a mute to almost giving a monologue. Sure, he was disguised when he committed his other murders, but when Frankie unmasked him (which prompted him to kill her), he still didn't say ONE WORD. Now it's like he can't shut up. Very odd! Sharlene shows up (finally!) at Cass', shocked that Frankie is gone. Michael, John and Rita head for the trauma unit fund raiser. In Part 22, Cass spreads Frankie's ashes on Hammond Hill, throws a bouquet in her honor, and promises to love her forever. He vows he will go to her the moment his life is ended in this life. Morgan, Gary, Gabe and Josie simultaneously learn that Fax is the killer. Fax, knowing that his cover is blown, angrily prepares for a showdown, grabbing a stash of cash and a loaded gun. Joe deduces (finally!) that Frankie was trying to carve an 'F' to show that Fax was the murderer. Gabe astonishingly credits Joe with a pat on the back ("Good work, Joe!") for "cleverly" deducing the inscription. A lot of good that does since everything else had to spelled out before Bay City's finest figured it out. Duh... Gabe issues an arrest warrant for Fax. Fax, meanwhile, marks the names of Ozzie and Morgan on a list, indicating they're next to be murdered as they could implicate him. Felicia urges John to do the opening for the trauma unit for Frankie's sake when Morgan comes in and informs them both that Fax Newman is the stalker. Rita Madison then enters and initially refuses to believe Morgan about Fax, thinking it's more of his grudge holding, but she acquiesces when she realizes that Fax's references don't check out and that he is wanted by the police. The show never recovered from the loss of Frankie who, in many ways, represented the heart of the show. In Part 21, Frankie's memorial service ends. Cass thanks all for attending and for showing their appreciation of how good Frankie was. He urges all to attend that night's fundraiser for the opening of the new trauma unit. He states Frankie wouldn't want anyone staying away on her account and neither does he. He assures them that he and Charlie will still need everyone. Morgan tells Gabe that he found Fax's resume in Rita Madison's office and hopes to uncover some falsehoods. He also gives Josie a tape of Fax's voice. She leaves with the tape to play it for Ozzie, an eye witness to one of the murders, so that he can hopefully identify Fax as the killer. Nick and Maggie offer pleasantries to Cass as does Rachel, who apologizes for Carl's absence. Cass asks her if she still misses Mac. She responds yes. She assures him the loss gets easier and more manageable somehow. She tells him she's lucky to have found love again as well and that each new love is so unique. She begins to tell him that one of these days the same will happen for him but realizes that she's jumping the gun and merely tells him "it's too soon." Felicia invites Charlie and Cass over for dinner that night and he turns her down, stating he needs to face being alone at some point and that there's something he needs to do later when he's alone. Bobby Reno is captivated by how Vicky is dressed. She plans to attend the fundraiser for the new trauma unit, even though her heart is not in it. Bobby tells her it's for a good cause. Joe interrupts Gabe and Lorna with a forensics report on Fax's car. Cass vows to always love Frankie, and Charlie, as she places her flower near the picture of her mother, says "Me too, mommy, me too." (That scene gets me EVERY time!) Fred Banning tells Gary that Fax Newman isn't the name of the doctor that killed his wife. He says the doctor's name was Newton Fairchild. In Part 19, Felicia tells John at the Cory chapel that Cass is having Frankie's ashes spread on Hammond Hill, her favorite spot.*** Michael, Donna and Vicky then arrive with the family Bible. They compare the family tree when Nick arrives with Maggie. Nick signs his name as Nick Hudson right when Sophia arrives. Maggie, looking to rub her marriage in Sophia's face, suggests that her name be added to it as Nick's wife. Nick refuses to add Maggie's name. Felicia goes over what lines people will be reading for the memorial. Rachel and Matt arrive, and Matt laments how unfortunate Frankie didn't reach the Cory chapel or the main house when she was murdered. Joe arrives with Tomas and he explains that Sharlene still doesn't know about Frankie. Cass arrives with Charlie and is pleased with the picture that Felicia chose of Frankie (ironically the ONLY picture that doesn't show Frankie in the same outfit that she was murdered in). Rachel informs him that Amanda and Allie send their love and asks about Frankie's family. Cass explains that Evan is in Oklahoma with Frankie's mother, Emma, who was too ill to make the trip to Bay City. They are having their own memorial service for Frankie. Morgan arrives and he and Cass embrace. Gabe learns that Fax's car was found abandoned in the woods. They hope there's something in the car that links him to the murders. Josie laments that he killed Frankie all for a necklace. Gabe surmises that she must have found something else out about him that prompted him to kill her. Gary meets Fred Banning in Chicago and learns that he is still hostile about the doctor who is responsible for his wife's death. Gary asks him if the doctor who treated her was named Fax Newman. ***Again, John shows no personal pain for the loss of Frankie. He's more sensitive and wistful over the family Bible than he is over the death of a woman who he once thought he was in love with. In Part 18, Felicia and John are reluctant to leave Cass alone for the night since the following day is Frankie's memorial service. He assures them both he is fine. He also shares with them Frankie's belief that he and Frankie had lived through several lifetimes together and that they had several lifetimes more to experience. Once Felicia and John have left, Cass privately says to Frankie that he hopes she was right. Suddenly, Frankie's chimes start to ring with nary a breeze in sight. Cass takes this as a sign from Frankie that she is indeed correct. Vicky phones Jake, wanting some comfort from him as she was thinking about Frankie. She asks him about the personal matter he was attending to. He doesn't say but it's revealed that the new edition of the paper was a special memorial dedicated to Frankie. Officer Tibbs informs Gabe that Fax is nowhere to be found. While Gabe absorbs the news, Fax is shown to be tailing Gary and Josie as they take a night stroll hand in hand. Gabe issues a bulletin for Fax to be detained if spotted, stating that he is to be considered armed and dangerous. Josie enters to let Gabe know that she is off to attend Frankie's memorial and that she's frustrated that thus far there is no evidence to link Fax to the murders. Rita Madison walks in on Morgan snooping in her office while he digs for info on Fax. Felicia tells John of when she received a bracelet from Frankie and became Charlie's godmother. She hopes she's up to the task of being what Charlie will need from her. Joe tells Sophia her sign, "Closed Due to Death in Family" is appropriate since Frankie felt like family. Inspite of his reservations, Sophia insists on going to the memorial with him so that she can pay her respects as well as be there for him. Cass tries to brace himself for the memorial and then calls for Charlie. She comes and helps him clasp a button that he was having trouble with. It symbolizes how she'll be there for him as he adjusts through life without Frankie. Morgan bluffs an explanation to Rita about why he was snooping in her office but she isn't convinced. Before she can press further, Bobby Reno alerts her to an electrical problem that would impede the success of the opening of the new trauma unit. Cass puts a hat on Charlie's head and tells her that she's perfect. She responds that Frankie used to tell her that all of the time. Morgan gets wired for sound in order to get more incriminating evidence to use against Fax Newman. Gary and Josie inform Gabe that they have another lead in the name of Margaret Banning, a patient whose history ends mysteriously. While Cass' friends gather round to support him and Charlie, Matt is appalled that Rachel has still yet to hear from Carl. Cass thinks the opening of the trauma unit coinciding with Frankie's memorial service is a nice way to celebrate Frankie's life. Matt puts a call in to Carl and leaves a message for him to prove that he's to be there for the family in their time of need. Cass and Felicia reminisce about their wacky experiences with Frankie, including Crystal Lake. Cass also brings up Frankie's habit of always having tissues in her pockets in case of tears. Sure enough, he checks her coat pocket and there is a pack of tissues. He breaks down right when Vicky brings Charlie home. Charlie goes to Cass and tells him it's okay, and then grabs a tissue and wipes his tears, a gesture that resembles what Frankie would have done. Gary asks a couple at Carlino's about Margaret Banning and learns that she had died. He gets Margaret's husband's number from the couple. Fax confronts Morgan about his digging into his past medical records concerning Blaire Baker and wants to know what it is that Morgan is trying to find. If you want your comments preserved, then please copy and paste them onto the new page. Thanks. Please spread the word! ANOTHER WORLD: Frankie Dies (Stalker Storyline) Pt. 15 The firing of AW alumni Alice Barrett was a sad and devastating blow to the fans of "Another World" for it set in motion the decision to kill off the character that she had portrayed for seven years: the beloved Frankie Frame. Though brilliantly performed, the storyline is infamous for the controversy it sparked among the show's fans and the soap's executives as well as for the grisly violent way in which the character was murdered. The show never recovered from the loss of Frankie who, in many ways, represented the heart of the show. In Part 15, all of Bay City General joins Cass, Morgan and Felicia to pay respects to those who were killed by the stalker. Fax lights Cass' candle and says that it's nice that Frankie's friends could all be here. Cass thanks the crowd and suggests that the city should lend its support to the police who are doing all that they can to catch the stalker. Morgan echoes those same sentiments. Matt confronts Jake on slandering the police department on the stalker investigation. Gabe, frustrated that they don't have enough evidence to link Fax to the murders, asks Morgan how far is he willing to go in order to catch him. Nick and Maggie head over to Cass' house to lend support. Tags: Frankie Frame Cass Winthrop Fax Newman Nick Gregory Another World stalker Alice Barrett Linda Dano Stephen Schnetzer |

In Part 14, Gabe urges Lorna to get away since he still worries that she may be a target for the stalker. Lorna assures Gabe she's no longer in danger. Cass starts to lash out in the police station locker room, playing over and over in his mind the well wishing and condolensces over the loss of Frankie. Morgan asks the doctor, Fax Newman, who is suspected of being the stalker, whether he treated Blaire Baker. Fax replies no. Morgan fills Gary in on Fax's denial of treating Blaire Baker. Morgan states he knows Fax is lying. Felicia leads Cass outside the police station where there is a candlelight vigil memorial for all of the victims killed by the stalker. Judy's choir sings "Amazing Grace". Cass is offered a candle by Fax Newman while Morgan looks on. The show never recovered from the loss of Frankie who, in many ways, represented the heart of the show. In Part 13, Felicia spots Morgan on the steps holding a candlelight vigil in memory of Courtney and this gives Felicia an idea of what to do for Cass. She asks Judy and her mother Etta Mae if they still sing in a church choir. Cass is frustrated since he can't decipher the partial letter that Frankie carved before she died. He learns that Frankie fought back hard against the stalker and that her car had been tampered with. Gabe informs him that the stalker killed Frankie in order to get the gold chain she was wearing. While Cass laments that their efforts to catch the killer won't bring back Frankie, Gabe confides in him that he himself has suffered the loss of a wife. He tells Cass that his wife and son perished in a fire a year prior. He advises Cass to let his friends help him and that it's ok to feel the rage and pain at his loss. Gabe, though reluctant at first, agrees with Josie and Gary to let Morgan in on trying to catch the killer. Morgan, being a doctor, can inquire about the killer without being detected. Matt sees Morgan's candle memorial to Courtney and adds Blaire Baker's photo to it. Maggie likewise does the same with a photo of Frankie.*** ***Anyone notice that the picture of Frankie that Maggie uses is a pic of her dressed in the same outfit that she died in? It was obviously taken from one of Alice Barrett's last days of shooting (they didn't have any other press photos of her available???) and it seems unlikely that Maggie would have taken a picture of Frankie the very same day that she died. In fact, Maggie was nowhere near Frankie that day except for Maggie's wedding and no picture of Frankie was taken. The show never recovered from the loss of Frankie who, in many ways, represented the heart of the show. In Part 12, Grant volunteers to let Sharlene know about Frankie's death since she's still away and is unable to be reached. Gary and Josie feel all clues lead back to Bay City General. They learn who the doctor is that prescribed the medication to Blaire. Lorna admits that she's shaken up by the recent deaths, particularly since Courtney and Frankie were very close to her. Instead of planning her wedding with them, she's attending their funerals. Cass arrives at the station, determined to help Gabe catch the killer. He sees the partial letter that Frankie carved before she died and learns that in her fighting back against the stalker, she may have seriously injured him. The stalker is wrapping his abdominal area where Frankie had struck him with the tire iron, and his forearm clearly show claw marks from when Frankie tried to fend him off. Michael and Donna are appalled that Rita Madison won't consider delaying the opening of the new trauma unit out of respect to Frankie's death. John reluctantly agrees to let Grant tell Sharlene about Frankie, with the stipulation that she tell Gregory herself. Tomas gives his condolensces to Maggie about Frankie's passing. In Part 11, Gary resolves to take matters in his own hands with a gun should the need arise with the stalker. He assures Josie that the stalker will be caught.*** Felicia learns that the stalker was after the gold chain that she found. Gabe vows to find the stalker. Joe and Paulina exit. Maggie consoles Cass with the notion that Frankie is not totally gone. She suggests that, given Frankie's spiritual beliefs, she'd hang around to make sure that Cass and Charlie are all right. Gary and Josie probe through Blaire Baker's belongings and come across a prescription bottle of hers. Sophia, while leaving the hospital, gives Morgan her condolensces about Frankie. Maggie, while consoling Cass, attempts to confess about how she faked her preganancy to marry Nick, but she is interrupted by the chimes of Frankie's clock. While John and Gabe commiserate about how the women they love came close to becoming victims of the stalker, Cass heads straight to Gabe and demands that he find the man who killed Frankie. ***Gotta admit, that opening shot of Timothy Gibbs as Gary, all brooding, is pretty hot, hot, hot!!! In Part 10, Lorna identifies to Josie and Gary the necklace in the photograph that the stalker killed Frankie for. John arrives and Michael and John admit that inspite of their recent spats over John's relationship with Felicia, that as brothers they love each other. Maggie and Paulina learn from Rachel at Carlino's about Frankie's murder. Maggie wants to go with Rachel but doesn't know if she'd be welcome. Rachel puts her in her place stating that now is not the time for her to think of herself. Rachel, Maggie, Paulina, Morgan, Vicky and Felicia give a eulogistic voiceover while Cass tells Charlie about her mother. Felicia confides in John about her reconciliation with Frankie and how she regrets the time that was lost while they were estranged. She feels she should've made a more concerted effort to make Frankie understand but John tells her that Frankie came to her when she was ready.*** Donna tells Michael she'd like to buy a teaset for Charlie and Michael is touched by her generosity. Lorna and Gabe discuss the gold chain and Gabe realizes that the stalker could've killed Lorna over it. Paulina, Rachel and Maggie arrive at the Winthrop's and Joe confides to Paulina his frustration that they don't have any more leads as to who the stalker is. Cass then enters the room. ***I find John to be a little too blasé over Frankie's death. When Sharlene was thought dead back in 1993, Frankie was there for John and he even developed deep romantic feelings for her as a result. However, he displays no sense of deep loss or anger here. It's totally out of character and not consistent with how he would've responded. He should've needed consolation just as much as Felicia did.
