The weekend starts Thursday night, so leave Wednesday night (El Al has an 11:50 p.m. flight from JFK that lands just in time for dinner the following day). Take a disco nap before a late dinner close to clubland at coffeeBar (13 Yad Harutzim St.), with its perfect steak-frites and sexy crowd. Continue to Barzilay Club (13 Harechev St. ), a nearby six-month-old hipster dance haunt, and then to the G-Spot (40 Salame St. ), whose D.J.-owner, Nir Mamon, spins the latest rap hits straight outta Brooklyn. Well past midnight, explore the Breakfast Club (6 Rothschild Blvd.; no phone), a smoky, shameless after-hours pickup spot, or Evita (31 Yavne St.), its nearby gay equivalent. Enjoy a late Saturday brunch at the alfresco Shalvata (Tel Aviv Port) with a cocktail while admiring prime Mediterranean views. Spend the last few hours on the beach itself, before heading back to the airport for El Al's midnight flight to New York. British lecturers vote to boycott Israel - what a disgrace! May 30 2007: The British university lecturers' union (UCU) voted to support a boycott of Israeli universities to protest the treatment of Palestinians. The decision to single out and demonize Israel above and beyond all other countries and remaining silent over Russia's brutal occupation in Chechnya, or China's ongoing oppression of Tibet, or Iran or Sudan - is truly troubling. More disturbing is to do it at a time when students at an Israeli college were being bombarded by Palestinian Qassam rockets every day. Save the city of Sderot in Israel Sderot is an Israeli city located nearly three miles from the Gaza Strip border. Since Israel's withdrawal from Gaza on summer 2005, hundreds of rockets have slammed into the town and other nearby Jewish communities, fired by Hamas and Islamic Jihad militants.
