Grasshopper - Part 4 of 4 - Jacqueline Bissett Jim Brown Our heroine, in hopes of improving her husband's career, makes a date with "The Devil!" She opts out of his reptilian desires, but he insists on having his way! There's an old adage: "Payback" is a bitch, but "Revenge" is a "MF!" Kathleen Battle - Pie Jesu - Fauré Lovely Ms. Battle sings "Pie Jesu," by Fauré. Though actually recorded at St. George's Episcopal Church in lower Manhattan, the photos are from The Riverside Church, somewhat further uptown near Harlem. New York is justifyably proud of this magnificent church! Tags: Kathleen Battle Fauré Pie Jesu Harlem Morningside Heights lyric soprano beautiful haunting |

Night of My Nights - Richard Kiley, Kismet! What a conquest! It's rumored that Mr. Kiley was singing somewhat above his natural register. Thus, again only rumors, he was less than likely to speak with friends and family during this spectacular production of "Kismet!" He did this to preserve the beauty of this role. Truth or fantasy, we're all in his debt for his magnificent portrayal of "The Young Calip" in the first Broadway production of "Kismet!" From Forrest and Wright, with original music by Alexander Borodin, this is really special. Tags: Richard Kiley Kismet Broadway 1954 Forrest Wright Music Borodin Doretta Morrow Alfred Drake unsigned |

The Physical Sisters - Sabu, Jean Simmons, Deborah Kerr Our young prince visits a convent, expressing a desire to learn many things. As it turns out, he's not disappointed! Only by seeing this can one realize his unforgettable lessons. Beautiful people, and possibly one of the most innocently erotic videos I've ever seen! Hope you agree. If You Believe - Dee Dee Bridgewater -The Wiz This song, from "The Wiz," early in her career, was just a harbinger of the wonderful things to come! She's since conquered cities, and countries and was named Ambassador to The United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organization in October 1999. This media prohibits mentioning all her conquests due to space, time and other considerations. Ms. Bridgewater is just superb! There's so much more out there about her, but I saw her sing this 3x back in the day! It embodies an amazing time in my life, but is no less brilliant for a Tony award winning performance by a then very young, beautiful and amazingly talented woman! Loved her then, and always will! Come Rain or Come Shine - Eileen Farrell, Leonard Bernstein Talk about a "mutual admiration society," there's no question here of their devotion and friendship for one another! Though having possessed one on the loveliest sopranos voices ever, she loved to "swing it" whenever she could. Here, in her early 70's she wows the audience, aided and abetted by Leonard Bernstein, with this old beauty by Harold Arlen and Johnny Mercer. Thief in the Night - Ethel Waters From 1935's Broadway production of "At Home Abroad," Ms. Waters introduced this poignant torch song, coupled with one of the funniest "reading" scenes ever heard! Can't find the lyrics anywhere, so don't know if she's belittling "Slicky, or Snakey, Johnson!" Please, first time watch and "kinda" listen. Second, just close your eyes and laugh! Either way, I wouldn't have wanted to be on the receiving end of her tirade. I Love Ethel Waters! O Mio Babbino Caro - Eileen Farrell Ms. Farrell is often forgotten these days. Easily evidenced here, hope you'll agree with me that her voice was equal to, or surpassed many of the "Divas" of her day. En paz descanse! O my dear papa He pleases me, and is handsome, handsome . I want to go to Porta Rossa to buy the ring! Yes, yes, I want to go there! And if my love were in vain, I would go to the Ponte Vecchio and throw myself in the Arno! I am aching, I am tortured! "BEAT OUT DAT RHYTHM ON A DRUM" - 1954, Georges Bizet Pearl Bailey, Dorothy Dandridge, Diahann Carroll all havin' big fun at Louis Pastor's Night Club. Wonderful Pearl, but 3 future stars are barely seen. The handsome drummer is no less than the fabled "Max Roach." The beauty with the 3 foot pony-tail is Carmen De Lavallade, and the ultimate, for about 3 seconds is Alvin Ailey, just behind Dorothy. In order of appearance here's the skinny. Carmen is seen upon Dorothy's entrance at 0:20, and at 1:48. Mr. Max Roach is featured at 0:33, and a super-young Alvin Ailey's directly behind Dorothy as a featured dancer 0:46! Carmen Jones - Dis Flower Seems that some of the best films ever made were from 1954! This is just one. With the original music by Georges Bizet, and new lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, this is based on "Flower Song." OK, so Mr. B is not really singing. Here he's dubbed by wonderful Le Vern Hutcherson.
