Harvey Milk - I Do Not Know How To Live My Life Song: I Do Not Know How To Live My Life Artist: Harvey Milk Album: The Singles (c) Harvey Milk Oh Harvey Milk, why is your shit so damn hard to find? These guys are definitely one of the MOST underrated sludge band, possibly because of the scarcity of their releases. Relapse has done a good job doing some re-issues but still I find it increasingly difficult to find anything by them in stores. Harvey Milk weren't a typical band, often sounding more akin to ZZ Top or other bands who influence them. However when they're tuned low and crushing you with heaviness they are masters of their craft. This is definitely one of the bands you MUST know before you lose your hearing IMO. Melvins - Night Goat Song: Night Goat Artist: Melvins Album: Houdini Live: A History of Gluttony and Lust (c)2005 Melvins/Ipecac The Melvins are a constant. Once forming with Big Business they re-recorded Houdini and I think the results of those sessions are right up there with the original, which still happens to be my favorite Melvins album. The Abominable Iron Sloth - I'd Rather Die Than Fly Song: I'd Rather Die Than Fly Artist: The Abominable Iron Sloth Album: Self-Titled (c)2006 Abominable Iron Sloth Sludgecore at its finest. Not as low and heavy as Crowbar but definitely better than anything these kids are calling Hardcore Metuhls these days. The band is currently on hiatus due to lack of funds, I hope they get back on track soon because I'm already anxious for another album. Valient Thorr - Heatseeker Song: Heatseeker Artist: Valient Thorr Album: Legend of the World (c) Valient Thorr/Volcom Another band I started to listen to after playing Guitar Hero II. Bringing booze and fantasy into hard rock again, in my opinion. I can't say too much about them other than they are fucking amazing. Valient Himself and his band of space traveling vikings (amidoinitrite?) will pillage and rape your ears and steal your heart. Tags: Valient Thorr Heatseeker stoner rock metal epic |

The Sword - Fire Lances of the Ancient Hyperzephyrians Song: Fire Lances of the Ancient Hyperzephyrians Artist: The Sword Album: Gods of the Earth (c) 2008 The Sword/Kemado The Sword captivated me in late 2006 when I first got Guitar Hero II and heard Freya for the first time. These guys from Texas can fucking rock my balls off. Their stage show is stellar and is every bit as heavy and crushing live as is on album if not more so. This is from their newest album which I must get ASAP because if the whole thing lives up to how good this song is, they've got a shoo in for one of the top albums of 2008 Tags: The Sword Gods of the Earth Fire Lances Ancient Hyperzephyrians Stoner Doom Metal Kemado Records |

Om - Unitive Knowledge of the Godhead Song: Unitive Knowledge of the Godhead Artist: Om Album: Pilgrimage (c)2007 Om/Southern Lord After the demise of Sleep there were two main projects that arose: High on Fire and Om. High on Fire as we all know is Matt Pike's project which is more technical and heavy as all get out. Om, manned by rhythm section Al Cisernos and Chris Hakius, slowed things down a bit to create the mantra like stoner doom that we all love and enjoy. I'd have loved to upload At Giza, but I hate splitting songs into two parts. This is my favorite cut from Pilgrimage, hope you all enjoy it...and go buy their shit, you won't regret it one bit. Acid Bath - Graveflower Song: Graveflower Artist: Acid Bath Album: Paegan Terrorism Tactics (c)1996 Acid Bath/Rotten Records Words cannot describe the majesty that was Acid Bath. Hailing as most sludge does, from NOLA, this band had to dissolve before they were allowed to ripen more. Aside from the tears over the death of Audie Pitre, I shall just present to you all one of the most powerful (in my eyes, at least) songs they ever wrote. I can't believe I haven't found this song on the Tubes yet, everyone who uploads sludge vids should be ashamed of themselves for not putting this gem into the fray. Sourvein - Bangleaf Song: Bangleaf Artist: Sourvein Album: Will To Mangle (c)2002 Sourvein/Southern Lord One of the many great sludge bands who don't seem to get the attention they deserve. Mayhaps it could be the fact no one can ever find their albums...like me. XD Personally, there should be moar Sourvein on the 'Tubes. No, I do not say this just because Liz Buckingham used to be in their ranks, but it doesn't hurt does it? Tags: Sourvein Bangleaf Will To Mangle Southern Lord North Carolina Sludge Doom Metal |

Trouble - Tragedy Man Song: Tragedy Man Artist: Trouble Album: Manic Frustration (c)1992 Trouble/Def American Trouble is a traditional doom/stoner metal band from Chicago, Illinois, formed in 1979. Taking inspiration from Black Sabbath they helped write the book for traditional doom metal. They are often mislabeled as a Christian Metal band, but this is not totally the case...they've written songs that touch on Christian themes but by no means do they fall under the label completely. Their first three albums all wave the traditional doom flag while later releases had a more stoner metal flair. They went on hiatus for a while after Plastic Green Head but re-formed in 2002 for some reunion shows and Eric Wagner was even featured on Dave Grohl's Probot project. The band recorded a DVD live in Stockholm, Sweden and they released their newest effort in 2007 along with re-issues of Psalm 9 and The Skull. If traditional doom or stoner metal is your thing, or if you want insight on a band who helped form traditional doom, do not pass up a chance to hear Trouble.
