"Monkey Beach" - Phi Phi Islands, Thailand (Watch in HQ) I filmed these Long-Tailed Macaque Monkeys out on Phi Phi Don Island off the coast of Krabi, Thailand last summer. Although this specie of monkey feeds on crabs, coconuts and pineapple, they also eat leaves, flowers, roots and bark. Macaque Monkeys are omnivores and also love to eat vertebrates (including bird chicks and nesting female birds, lizards, frogs, and fish). Macaque Monkeys are often trained as coconut pickers by coconut farmers in Thailand. They actually climb the coconut trees and with their very sharp teeth quickly by bite through the stem that holds the nut to the tree. However they are still a kind of common wild animal in Thailand. You can clearly see in this footage that some tourist gave one of these monkeys their frozen coffee drink. Feeding Long-Tailed Macaque Monkeys on "Monkey Beach" is not advisable due to their aggressive tendencies. They will bite you! Also included in this video are clips from the movie "The Beach" starring Leonardo De Caprio. They filmed this movie on parts of the islands (Maya Bay). This is the movie that inspired so many people to go visit the Phi Phi Islands which was a well kept secret before the movie. I would advise you not to visit the Phi Phi Islands between the months of November and April. There are just too many tourists out there during that time. Neil Young posted the video on his website "Living With War Today" and at one point it reached #23 most popular out of over 200 videos posted on his site. Phuket Thailand "Wat Chalong" (Virtual Tour) Wat Chalong is the most important of the 29 buddhist temples of Phuket, Thailand. This Buddhist monastery is dedicated to two highly revered monks, Luang Pho Chaem and Luang Pho Chuang who helped the injured of a tin miners rebellion in 1876. This magnificent temple is located in Mueang Phuket district right outside Phuket Town. The architecture of Wat Chalong is typical of "Wats" found throughout Thailand. Many Thais come here to be blessed by the monks and receive a good luck charm in the form of a string tied around the wrist, which they believe protects them from injury and illness. The practice of Buddhism in Thailand has many cultural identities almost exclusively associated with the Theravada (Hinyana - small wheel) sect of 'old school' Buddhism practiced in this country. Many of the mystical and mythical aspects of everyday Thai dhamma (Buddhist practice) have their roots in Hinduism, such as the symbolic characters and habits within the religion. Thais, young and old, can frequently be seen offering a quick 'wai' of respect to Buddhist symbols such as chedis, Buddhas, monk statues and spirit houses. Whichever form of divination you choose, be sure to leave a donation at the alter. It will go towards the upkeep of the shrine. Also, don't forget to take your shoes off before entering!! My Maya Bay Arrival Again! (2007) -The Real "Beach" Directions on how to get to Maya Bay --The "Beach": 1.Take a plane to Bangkok International Airport (BKK) 2.Take a plane to Phuket International Airport (HKT) 3.Take a taxi (not a Tout) to the Rasada Pier in Phuket 4.Take a ferry or speed boat out to Phi Phi Don Island (Don't take a speedboat during "low season") 5.Hire a speed boat or long tail boat at Phi Phi Don's Ao Ton Sai Bay. A long tail is much cheaper. 6. Have the boat guy take you to Phi Phi Leh Island into Maya Bay. 7. Give the the boat guy a couple of Singha beers and beach security 200 baht. 8. You are there my friend! Have fun! Yes, I returned to the Phi Phi Islands in Thailand again this past summer (2007). I also toured Krabi, Phuket, and Phang Nga again as well. After spending 5 weeks this summer in southern Thailand, I did not want to come back to the States. I will be going back again to the "Land of Smiles" this June through August. Patong Thailand Fountain Show at Jungceylon 2007 I dedicated this video to all the people that died on One-Two-Go Airlines flight OG269 that crashed while trying to land at the Phuket International Airport on September 16th 2007. Every evening like clockwork at 5pm and 7pm they put on a water fountain screen show at the Jungceylon International Shopping Destination in Patong, Thailand. It is a magnificent display of water, lights and a mini-movie they created as a tribute to the King of Thailand. They use a fan of water spray as a backdrop for the movie. It is quite a spectacle!
