Northwest Airlines B757-300 Safety Demo Audio This is a short audio clip of a Northwest Airlines Safety Demo. Safety Script: Please direct your attention to the cabin crew for important safety information. There is an instruction card in your seat pocket that illustrates the safety equipment on this aircraft. U.S. federal regulations require compliance with this information as well as all crew instructions, lighted information signs, and posted placards. Fasten your seatbelt by inserting the metal tip into the buckle, tighten by pulling on the belt, to release your seatbelt lift the metal flap on the buckle. It is Northwest Airlines policy that you keep your seatbelt fastened at all times while seated. This aircraft has 4 door and 2 window exits on each side. Window exits lead to off-wing slides. To operate remove the handle cover and pull the handle down and in. Slides may be detached and used as flotation devices except those over the wings. Two additional life rafts are located in ceiling compartments near the doors directly behind the wings. Doors are clearly marked with exit signs and instructions for door operation. Each door is equipped with an escape slide. Locate the exit nearest you, the nearest exit may be behind you. In an emergency lights will illuminate the aisle. The cabin is pressurized. Ff there is a loss of cabin pressure a panel will open and oxygen masks will appear. Remain seated with your seatbelt fastened and pull a mask towards you to start the flow of oxygen. Oxygen will be flowing to the mask even though the bag may not inflate. Cover your nose and mouth with the mask place the elastic band around your head and tighten by pulling on the ends. Secure your own mask before assisting others. Your seat bottom cushion may be used as a flotation device. Pull up and remove the cushion, upon exiting the aircraft place your arms around the cushion and hold onto the straps located on the back. This is a non-smoking flight. Smoking is not permitted in the cabin or lavatories. US federal regulations prohibit tampering with, disabling, or destroying lavatory smoke detectors. The cabin lights will now be turned off, reading lights and air vents are located above your seat. Thank you for your attention. Midwest Connect by Skyway Airlines Safety Demo Audio Here is a recording of the Safety Demo audio I recorded when I went to Duluth last summer. I was unable to record the Flight Attendant demonstrating the seatbelt and oxygen mask because all electronic devices were supposed to be shut off. Skyway Airlines ceased flight operations in April of 2008 because Midwest Airlines decided it would be cheaper for Skywest Airlines to operate their connection flights. Midwest Airlines Tribute When I originally made this video, YX (Midwest Airlines) was an amazing airline. They operated 37 aircraft and flew to major cities across the United States. They had Skyway airlines operate Fairchild 328 jets and Beech 1900 turboprops for them under the Midwest Connect name. Skywest airlines had also just begun operating CRJ-200s for them under the Midwest Connect name. Sadly in 9 months (I am writing this as of September 5, 2008) the once proud luxury airline has changed into a struggling carrier. Skyway airlines has seized operations, the MD-80s will in a few days be grounded, and 16 of the 25 717s will be returned to Boeing. Several leisure markets were cut and several non-stop west coast flights have either been cut or changed into 1 stop flights through MCI (Kansas City). YX will now charge around 40-80 dollars for their famous "2X2 Signature Seating." There will now be 40 "Signature Seats" on their 717s and 59 "Saver Seats" which is basically economy class on any other airline. Due to the grounding of 16 of its 25 717 aircraft, YX will now contract with Republic Airlines to provide 12 E170 aircraft. This move has resulted in the layoff of many of its employees. The airline will now employ only 45% of the employees it had at the beginning of this year. The seating on the E170s will not change and will be just like it was when the planes were operating for other carriers. No wide seats, and no increased seat pitch. YX plans to eventually transfer the 12 E170s into its fleet and recall some of its laid off employees. I am so sad to see this happen to such a hard working group of people who worked so hard to make Midwest Airlines the successful airline it once was. YX had such a great reputation especially in Milwaukee. People viewed the airline as every-seat being first class. The factors that turned YX into the struggling airline it is today were completely out of the control of its fantastic employees. They were the result of high fuel prices and poor management decisions. I wish you all the best of luck and I hope you are able to "spread your wings" at another airline doing the jobs that you all loved in the good days. High fuel prices were inevitable, and virtually every single airline had to make changes. Had AirTran purchased YX, I am close to positive the outcome would have been better than this. Very soon, 79% of flying under the YX name will be outsourced and operated by Midwest Connect (Skywest Airlines and Republic Airlines).
