SEFF 2008. www.pozor-okolis.org SEFF - Sisak Eco Film Festival 1st INTERNATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION SHORT DOCUMENTARY FILM FESTIVAL Town of Sisak is not by chance the host of the only Croatian international film festival on environmental protection. The town and its surroundings are, unfortunately, known to the Croatian people as the area most affected by the war which happened not so long ago in Croatia. It is also known as one of the region with highest industrial pollution in Croatia, due to oil refinery, ironworks and other heavy industry facilities, which are mostly located in Sisak itself. On the other hand, Sisak is a beautiful little town located on two rivers, with exceptionally rich and famous history obvious at every corner of the old part of town, which was built at the remains of the Roman settlement - Siscia. Having in mind the rich history and modern industrial heritage, by organizing this festival in Sisak we would like to add a little of green colour into the mostly black picture of Sisak, mostly considered as a polluted town. We hope that inhabitants of Sisak will be able to find ideas and encouragment for greener future of their own town. SEFF is not associated to Sisak only, it is the only travelling environmental protection film festival. Why travelling? The idea of the organizers was for SEFF to be decentralized and the same program of the Festival to be hosted at different locations in Croatia. Thus, we try to offer the chance for more people to be able to see films in competition. This year, this would be the people living in the County of Sisak-Moslavina who suffered during the war and are living at the watersides. The theme of this years festival is water therefore, most of the films to be projected will be related to water preservation and protection problems. SEFF is not just the international cultural event, it also aims to educate the audience. Due to that, the choice of the films will be based on educational-informative character. By this festival we would like to encourage people to think about environment protection issues and become active in environment protection field in their own local environment.
