Ann Nesby / Jasper Street Co. - Praisin' His Name 1986, three young DJs began making music on a 4-track recorder in a Baltimore basement studio. Little did they know at the time that more than 15 years later they would be viewed as pioneers of American dance music. The original Basement Boys Production team was Jay Steinhour, Teddy Douglas, and Thommy Davis. Davis left to pursue other ventures in 1989, about the time DJ Spen joined the team. Along with musicians Irvin Madden (bass), Gary Hudgins (keyboard), Wayne Cooper (guitar), and Victor Williams (percussion), the Basement Boys have been responsible for some of clubland's biggest anthems. Following the success of their debut single, "Love Don't Live Here Anymore" on Jump Street Records, the Boys rose to commercial prominence producing Ultra Nate's debut album "Blue Notes In The Basement" for Warner Bros., as well as her 2nd album One Womans Insanity. Meanwhile, they were quickly becoming underground club faves with their singles "Searchin'" (under the guise 33 1/3 Queen on Nu Groove) and "Tonite" (recorded as Those Guys on MCA Records). In 1991, they reached Gold Record status as the production team behind Crystal Waters, with her global smash hit "Gypsy Woman", and in 1994 with "100% Pure Love", from her gold Mercury LP-Storyteller (her second album). In 1992, they produced the debut album for R&B duo Mass Order on Columbia Records, spawning the international club hit Lift Every Voice (Take Me Away). With their studio wizardry well documented in the charts and on dancefloors the world over; high profile artists began seeking the Basement touch for remix projects. To date, the Boys have remixed songs such esteemed acts as Michael Jackson, Erykah Badu, Angie Stone, Lenny Kravitz, and Paula Abdul. However, even with mainstream acceptance, the Basement Boys have remained true to their DJ roots, remixing underground artists like Shaun Escoffery, Bob Sinclair, and The Shamen. In addition, they continue to expose and nurture new talent on their own label, Basement Boys Records, which was established in 1995. Over their 18+ year career, the Basement Boys have always had their ears to the future of music, with a knowledge, respect, and love of the past. Their solid disco, soul, jazz, R&B, and even rock roots have given them an open mind and ear for discovering fresh sounds and talent. The production team is always looking forward and expanding beyond the DJ booth with artists like Marcell, Vinx, and Mudfoot Jones. Keep your mind and ears open, for you never know what sound will come from the basement. Tags: Modern Soul Funky House Gospel |

Gerideau - Bring it Back To Love ( Joey Negro Mix ) Gerideau first lifted up the house music scene with his stunning debut single, Take A Stand For Love. The song remained in many a DJs box for months, with record labels scrambling to license it worldwide. By a year after the original release, Take A Stand For Love eventually got a full U.K. release with promotion, on London Records. After that, Gerideau struck gold with his chart topping anthem Bring It Back To Love, which eventually secured him a major label deal with L'Atitude/Mercury Records. L'Atitude released the much loved Reaching single. Gerideau secured a deal with Ministry of Sound for the superb Mood II Swing Anthem, Let The Sunshine, which proved to be an uplifting anthem of rare quality throughout Europe and the U.S. Gerideau went on to license Masquerade to Inferno/Sony and it proved to be one of the biggest UK anthems of that year alongside his featured contributions to Adamski's Thing. That album, produced by Adamski, featured Gerideau, and included the very popular One Of The People and Intravenous Venus. Around the same time, Masquerade was remixed, re-released and licensed to several high profile compilations; it has since achieved the unique status of one of the signature songs of the UK Garage genre. Gerideaus duet with top ten charting Robbie Craig on Who's The Better Man came after that. Must Be The Music, was released on Slip and Slide then licensed all around the world. Gerideau is currently based in New Jersey and is working on Axiom Studios, a newly established entertainment complex, with business partner and founder, Harold Martin Jr. Gerideau is the Director of Online Music for a newly launched technology company called IMEDIA STREAMS. Which is working in conjunction with Axiom Studios on many soon to be released projects. Gerideau is also the executive director of a non-profit organization called Le Millennium and continues to be involved in business projects aimed at improving the well-being of artists in the music industry. While his music is still developing and crossing many genres from Pop to Gospel, his main motivation is to bring a message of love, unity, and equilibrium to the world. Gerideau is an artist, listing alongside his obvious vocal talent (he has a six octave range), the arts of song writing and production. Through his uplifting music, Gerideau hopes to bring people together with his own special message of love and waging war on prejudice at every level. Living the life of his music is the only way forward from here. Tags: Modern Soul Funky House Gerideau Joey Negro |

Groove Armada Feat. Candi Staton - Love Sweet Sound Born March 13, 1940, in Hanceville, AL, Candi Stanton sang with the Jewell Gospel Trio as a teenager. They toured the traditional gospel circuit in the 1950s with the Soul Stirrers, C.L. Franklin, and Mahalia Jackson. They recorded several sides for Nashboro, Apollo, and Savoy Records between 1953 and 1963. In 1968 Staton launched solo career as a Southern soul stylist, garnering 16 R&B hits for Rick Hall's legendary Fame Studios and gaining the title of First Lady of Southern Soul for her Grammy-nominated R&B renditions of the country tunes "Stand by Your Man" and "In the Ghetto." In 1975 Staton saw Southern soul falling out of fashion and began collaborating with producer Dave Crawford, who propelled her into a disco diva with dance songs such as "Young Hearts Run Free" and "Victim." In 1982 Staton had been disgruntled with Warner Brothers' passing interest in her career and a career slump, so she returned to the gospel field. She and her husband, John Sussewell (drummer for Ashford & Simpson), founded Beracah Ministries in Atlanta with help from Jim and Tammy Bakker's PTL Ministries. She has since recorded eight popular gospel albums, two of which have won Grammy nominations. In 1992 she was back in the pop mainstream with a Top Ten British hit, "You Got the Love," a club-styled dance hit that sold two million copies. Since joining Intersound Records in 1995, Staton has begun to sing some of her old R&B hits again and recorded some new message-oriented pop songs while gaining a new title, the Sweetheart of Soul. In 2000, she released her 11th album, Here's a Blessing. Following the release of a well-received compilation of her Fame-era material (2004's Candi Staton), Staton returned to secular music in the form of 2006's His Hands. ~ Bill Carpenter, All Music Guide Tags: Modern Soul Funky House Candy Staton Groove Armada |

Marc Evans - Reach Out For Love ( Muthafunkaz 12"Remix ) Singer/songwriter Marc A. Evans has been making noise with his music for over 15 years. In 1993, he started a band called Voice Of Reason, a group of musicians playing covers but not the usual bar music. There sets were once referred to as "middle of the album" covers. The songs we all love from our favorite artists that never make the charts or get radio play. What started as a straight-ahead jazz endeavor evolved into soul, rock, funk, hip-hop, and house covers and inspired Marc's writing in each genre. Never wanting to be labeled a 'category' artist, Evans spent time studying and learning how to sing in any style. He attended open mics & jam sessions of all kinds - spent time performing as The Songbyrd with poetry troupe The Minista, JaHipster, and The Songbyrd. They performed at colleges and poetry spots up and down the east coast from Massachusetts to North Carolina. In 2004 Evans left his full-time job to tour with friend and producer John Stoddart for his Warner Bros release Wings To Walk This Road. The same year Evans released his debut indie recording The First Seven Years. Later that year he wrote and recorded 'The Way You Love' for DJ Spen and the Muthafunkas. A session turned into a single. A single turned into a follow up single 'I Don't Want You Anymore'. And in 2005 Evans was requested to perform his singles at the UK's Southport Soul Weekender, a semi-annual event featuring the world's hottests DJs, House, and R&B/Soul artists. Evans' overseas performances and songwriting caught the attention of Simon Dunmore, International DJ & CEO of Defected Records. A deal was struck and producer/partner DJ Spen began working on the full album. The lead single The Way You Love is now a full album that will release worldwide September 15, 2008. www.defected.com Evans' still writes and records as an indie artist. Summer 2008 he will release his 2nd independent album, Intervention. Known for his smooth delivery and optimistic lyrics, Evans shows a heavier side of his life. The struggles of a man, father, and aspiring artist. Evans is also recording an original album with his band Soul Centered that will release Fall 2008. Reel People Feat. Nathan Haines - Spiritual Hailing from Londons East End, Oli Lazarus spent three years of musical osmosis in Flying Records, a shop specialising in soulful dance music. After this grounding education and with very little song writing or studio experience under his belt, he produced Reel Peoples debut single Spiritual. The entirely positive reception to his maiden voyage (plus a little help from production master Phil Asher and multi-instrumentalist Nathan Haines), helped spur him on to realise the lauded debut LP. Mike Patto, a gifted multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, songwriter and arranger came on board in 2002 having previously worked with restless soul and collaborated with artists including Don E. Patto's father (also Michael) was a musical figure of note, as vocalist in renowned 60s jazz/rock fused group Patto. The influence rubbed off on Mike (and Oli), as well as other artists who proved key in shaping the Reel People sound, including Steely Dan and Stevie Wonder plus other black music heroes such as Marvin Gaye and Gil Scott Heron. Reel People have come home to roost on Papa Records for their brand new offering Seven Ways To Wonder which is released on February 25th 2008. The new longplayer has upped the ante: a heady brew of the many ingredients necessary to concoct an album worthy of a claim to their position within the classic UK soul pantheon. Reel People - Seven Ways To Wonder [2007] On February 25th 2008 Reel People present Seven Ways To Wonder, the follow-up to their critically acclaimed debut album Second Guess. The new longplayer has upped the ante: a heady brew of the many ingredients necessary to concoct an album worthy of a claim to their position within the classic UK soul pantheon. Reel Peoples core members are Oli Lazarus and Mike Patto. The album kicks off with Alibi and introduces new guest vocalist Darien. Coming from Mount Vernon in New York, Darien has emerged from NYs underground soul scene and is set to wow fans with his stunning tone and warm vocals. With hints of Stevie in his heyday and paying homage to Sergio Mendes, Alibi is a wonderful piece of Latin-edged soul which will instil euphoria in even the most jaded of souls. The legendary Omar comes next with Outta Love a Bill Withers-influenced cut with a soca groove. Amazing is an updated take on the classic 80s soul vibe, in the vein of Maze or Shalamar and also Reel Peoples first hook-up with singers Tony Momrelle & Imaani (Incognito). London favourite Vanessa Freeman returns with Rise & Fly and takes you deep into a hypnotic journey that wouldnt be out of place as a Bond theme tune. Tony Momrelle is then on board again for the classic It Will Be. With a vocal performance that sends shivers down your spine and a production that would not be out of place on a George Benson record, Perfect Sky allows Joy Rose some beautiful space and time on an ideal summers-evening. Taking one of several shifts in style, Reel Peoples very own Mike Patto steps up for Ordinary Man which sounds like the lost classic that Hall & Oates or Steely Dan never wrote.
