Chopin Waltz and Bach Invention #4 At some point you have to leave pieces you have worked so hard on and just go onto something new. I have played both of these several times in recital and I am sure they were better at some point that they are now. Funny how you reach that sweet spot when a piece is fresh and then things start to slip. My teacher says that "your fingers get sick" after you've had it for a while. Anyway, this is the Chopin Waltz and Bach Invention #4 for the last time. I am working on a Bach concerto, two Debussy pieces, and about to tackle my first Chopin Etude so these are going in the piano bench. First Attempt on Chopin Waltz No. 10 (w/o video blip) I have to perform this piece in 10 days and there are still a lot of problems to work out. I found it way hard to keep the left hand quiet. I will be working on tempo and dynamics--oh and a few little memory slips. The ending is clipped too-- don't know why- I just stopped! Glenn Gould and Josy play Invention #13 OK, here is my second attempt on the Invention 13. I added some speed (as was suggested). For comparison I included Glenn Gould's version to show the difference between a master and a regular 10 year old kid. Wow--what a speed demon!!! I have mostly moved on from this- but still refining it. I am now working on a Haydn concerto. I will post some of the other pieces I have worked up soon-- Mozart Fantasy in D minor and a Grieg Lyric piece and maybe some ragtime and gospel stuff. A Billion Starving People A message from Keith Green recorded shortly before his death. (From Josiah's Dad) I answered God's call to be a missionary 20 years ago and the music and message of Keith Green played a role in that life-changing decision. I uploaded this recording of one of Keith's last songs with some pictures from the mission field as a sort of tribute. Hope it blesses someone... As missionaries to abandoned and orphaned children, our family has had the joy and privilege to see hundreds of children (many pictured) rescued from the streets of the developing world. I, too, find it hard to turn away... Tags: orphan keith kieth green billion starving LDM orphanage |

Bach Invention #13-- 90% Complete I am Josiah, a 10 year old kid from Port St. Lucie, Florida and I have been playing the piano for 3 years although my first year I wasn't too serious about it. This is my favorite Invention so far. I make some slips in this performance. I will post a cleaner version in a couple of weeks after I work on it a bit more. I am not sure what went wrong, I have performed it once in recital and did not have any wrong notes. Maybe the camera makes me nervous. I listened to Glenn Gould and I could not believe how fast he played this. Tags: RCM examinations invention 13 bach ten year kid boy johann |

Josy Recites Robert Frost The Road Not Taken I am Josiah, a 10 year old kid from Port Saint Lucie, Florida and I had to memorize this poem for one of my homeschool assignments. At first I didn't understand it completely but now I love it and it is one of my favorite poems. I think the message of this poem is like my own life. I am trying to take the path that is less often traveled by other people. Tags: Frost less traveled josy robert poem poetry roads travelled difference recite memorize josiah kid books literature |

Chopin in the Style of Cziffra??? Ten year old Josiah attempts to play Chopin's Waltz #17 in the style of Cziffra after hearing a recording of it on Napster. Hi, I'm Josiah. I love to hear Cziffra play the piano. He is so powerful and amzingly fast. I think he is a piano god or maybe a piano demon! Of course I cannot even come close to him in any way but I did notice he played this quite differently than I learned it. So here is my attempt to imitate the master. One thing about Cziffra, on this piece, that I just cannot do yet is that his arpeggios are so powerful. When I try to make mine a little stronger it gets inaccurate and uneven. But I am going to keep working on it. Tags: RCM examinations Cziffra Chopin Posthumous waltz josiah georges |

My First Piano Teacher: Matthew Hand I took piano from Matthew Hand of Fort Pierce, Florida for a little over one year. He taught me my first Mozart, Bach, and Grieg pieces. Mr. Matthew, as I called him, is an expert in the Middle East. He was also an expert in being very patient as you can see from this video. We had some scheduling conflicts that caused me to have to change teachers but I will always remember the things he taught me.
