Can you stop eBay & PayPal from flouting UK consumer law? Perhaps you can help me because it seems no-one else can. I recently purchased an item on eBay which turned out to be fake. Despite contacting eBay on numerous occasions and including information from the manufacturer of the item, the seller is still listing identical items and I am unable to get my money back. I have also contacted the Police, trading standards, consumer rights, watchdog, my local MP and so on to no avail. PayPal buyer protection plan seems to be nothing but a public relations exercise. I have had other problems using this service too and both eBay and PayPal have invented their own rules which are often directly contradict UK law particularly where a seller is a trader or business. For example if I buy an item on eBay which is not as described I have to pay the postage charges to return it and I will not receive a full refund. I will end up with the purchase price minus the postage. If I purchase an item for £10 and it costs £10 for the seller to send it, then it costs me £10 to send it back and I get a £10 refund, I end up £20 out of pocket and I have nothing to show for it. UK consumer law states that if a trader or business sells you an item which is not as described the buyer should receive a full refund and the seller is responsible for the repatriation of the item. What's more eBay now force sellers to accept PayPal as a form of payment under the guise of buyer protection. I would like the government to investigate eBay and it's sister company PayPal's codes and practices and ensure that they are operating within the word of the law, not just giving out feel good statements then turning their backs on their users and ignoring UK legislation when something goes wrong. It is frustrating that consumer laws exist to regulate sellers and protect buyers but the reality is that there is no-one there to enforce them and scammers get away scot free.
