Colony Capers by Scotty Lynn on the Hammond B 3 Organ Colony Capers by Scotty Lynn was recorded on a private label in the early 50's,and as far as I know was never publicly released on any major labels. He was an organist and piano player at a local hotel nightclub here in the city. He and my aunt were friends and he gave her this record. My aunt also on occasion would sing at this nighclub. I played this very record and many others at her apartment, when I was just a kid. The apartment was on the 7th floor high on a hill overlooking the city. I would watch the traffic and planes landing and taking off at the airport. Needless to say this record brings back a lot of memories for me. It is played on an RCA 1957 Hi-fi that I just got restored back to operating condition last week. It was in very rough condition when I purchased it at the flea market for 4.00. It had weather exposure, Changer was frozen up and needed cleaning oiling and adjusting. The cabinet needed partial refinishing, and the amplifier needed new capacitors. It is not mint but at least it was slavaged and is a vintage record player in full operation again Tags: Scotty Lynn Colony Capers Hammond B-3 organ 78rpm RCA orthophonic hi-fi vintage record player |

Where or when-Lena Horn Where or when sung by Lena Horn with the Richard Rogers orchestra on the original Victor record released in Dec of 1941. Played on an RCA 1957 HI-FI. This RCA was found at the flea market, this summer. It had some weather exposure as the top's finish was ruined and coming off, as well as some of the finish on the front. The changer was dirty and frozen up, and the amplifier did not work properly. It cost all of 4.00, and it even had the brass legs with it. It probably hadn't been played in 25 or 30 years. I refinished the top and got it to match fairly well with the rest of the cabinet that was gone over, and I am not into refinishing and matching finishes, especially mahogany. The changer was cleaned and oiled , and I put new capacitors and some condensors in the amplifier. It is not in mint condition for sure, but at least its an old vintage piece that was on its last legs and is now in full operation again. A Lover's Lullaby by Frankie Carle with audio compression A Lover's Lullaby played and arranged by Frankie Carle. Played on a Luxman PD-131 turntable with a Magnetrac tonearm through a McIntosh Stereo The sound of this video is annoying to me because of youtubes new automatic volume compensator. When the piano note begins it is unnaturally loud and it is automatically reduced in volume with distortion, and it is very annoying. The lower passages are automatically increased in volume and This removes all natural dynamics from the music. In fact the dynamics of this video are almost completely opposite of the record. This all started this week with new uploads. I hope youtube removes this audio compression There have been a lot of complaints about it already. Listen close at the end of the record and how the volume automatically increases. This also gives the videos a wheezing pulsating sound, which is also annoying.
