Inside of Apollo 13 Yes, I was actually INSIDE Apollo 13! Back in Fall 1996, I had the chance to get some interesting video of the Apollo 13 Command Module shortly after it's arrival at the Kansas Cosmosphere's Spaceworks division for restoration. I did a lot of closeups and covering as much as I could inside & outside since I was also taking video for a friend back home who was a modeler who might find the video useful for making a post-flight Apollo CM look as authentic as possible. Perhaps it may not be much to look at with it's couches and instrument panels removed, but it's still an amazing piece of hardware that actually went into deep space (the current record holder for the furthest that any manned spacecraft has ever traveled away from the Earth), as well as the chance to look out through the actual window that Jim Lovell was looking through to notice the escaping oxygen from the Service Module and inform Houston that they "have a problem". Note the "Emergency Jettison List" on one of the cargo doors (freeze the video at 3:20) for a bit of astronaut humor. Tags: Apollo 13 Command Module Moon NASA Houston Artifact |

SPACE DOOKIE! The old question presented to many an Apollo-era astronaut was "how do you go to the bathroom in space?". Here are some of the items (hopefully unused) on display at the Kansas Cosmosphere museum that give you a glimpse of what was designed for dropping a zero-G deuce in the days before there was room for a space toilet in the crew cabin. 60 Minutes on Dungeons & Dragons (1985) Part 1 This is the 60 Minutes segment on the controversy involving D&D, broadcast in 1985. What has happened to the 4 main people featured since this aired: 1. Pat Pulling went on to become a "consultant for Satanic crimes investigation" across the country (do a Google search for Michael Stackpole's "Pulling Report" for details), and died of cancer in 1997. By then, her BADD group had dwindled down to just her as it's sole member. 2. Gary Gygax was later removed as head of TSR Inc. by Lorraine Dille Williams, granddaughter of the "Buck Rogers" franchise owner, and died in 2008 of heart failure. 3. Dieter Sturm left TSR Inc., is very much alive, and became an Oscar-winning Special Effects artist. 4. Dr. Thomas Radecki. Well....... Stick around for the CBS News segment on him (from 1995) I added on at the end of this video. The p'wnage is truly epic. Tags: 60 Minutes D&D Dungeons Dragons Gary Gygax Pat Pulling Thomas Radecki |

Saturn 1 launch & staging Several interesting views of the SA-5 unmanned Saturn 1 launch (1964), starting with the launch as seen from the tower's POV to several locations on & inside the boosters during flight (including from TV cameras mounted inside the fuel tanks as you watch the liquid hydrogen being rapidly consumed by the engines). Retro Commercial - Kool Pops Oh sure. The talking pouch suggests you put it in the freezer, but then it starts making other demands, like painting your naked body blue and running through a preschool. And don't expect it to provide any testimony in court either, cuz it'll just lay there on the table silently and make you look like a chump. Tags: Kool Aid frozen treat retro commercial |

The SCARIEST Jacob Marley, EVER!! HOLY CRAP! IT'S JACOB MARLEY! GET IN THE CAR!! There have been many depictions of Scrooge's partner Jacob Marley over the years. From decrepit spooks to greyed-out ghosts of their former living selves, but NONE scared the crap out me as a three year old more than this version of Marley from the Australian version, which was first broadcast in 1969. I mean, look at the guy! A skull-headed spectre from Hell who's yowling as if he was having a rabid wolverine shoved up his ass! That was DEFINITELY nightmare fuel to the little tyke that I was! Trivia Note: This version of A Christmas Carol was directed by Zoran Janjic (hence the very East European look of the show), who also worked on the animated Beatles series, as well as several Hanna-Barbera programs later on. QVC Holiday "screensaver" Around 15 years ago, when QVC went off the air on Christmas Eve, QVC would fill the airtime by running PSAs until midnight Christmas Day, then they would run holiday music and a holiday display on the screen until they went back on the air at 8AM Dec. 26th. Nowadays, all they run instead are lame segments of QVC hosts reading badly written Christmas books to dumb, bored children. Tags: QVC Christmas |
