Gentlemen - My Ego's Hurting Me (1976) Ahh.. Tony Wilson... looking cool in denim... RIP... Rock band with progressive flavours... great sounding Hohner pianet! Not my kind of thing normally but I think this is quite catchy.. plus I love anything that reminds me of my childhood and this is a real slab of nostalgia with all the long hair and bad fashions (and this from a guy with long hair and bad fashions! ;-) ) Not sure what became of Gentleman.. did they ever release an LP? Hopefully someone will write a message.. This was from the late Tony's TV show "So it Goes" from 1976 Granada TV. Tags: Tony Wilson Anthony Progressive Prog Rock 70s so it goes 1976 |

Peter Herbolzheimer R C and B - Wild Chick (1974) This is a live studio outtake from a standards session that involved Ella Fitzgerald. However, in the midst of all this they cut this groovy number! This isn't as good to my ears as the version on the Wait A Minute LP from 1973 featuring Sigi Schwab but its gold dust all the same... The version here has Dieter Reith on Hammond, Philip Catherine on Sitar, Art Farmer on Trumpet, Ack Van Rooyen on Trumpet... probably the usual Herbolzheimer regulars too... (maybe the 1974 Live at Ronnie Scotts band). Tags: Herbolzheimer big band jazz funk of the highest order dieter reith art farmer hammond b3 sitar |

Manfred Schoof Quintet - Light Lines (1977) Another great track, this time from the Light Lines LP. From a time when it was okay for jazzers to dress like dock workers... ;-) This group should be more well known... Manfred Schoof Quintet - Ostinato (1977) My first video upload in a while... but what a track to start with.. Shades of Herbies Mwandishi period but somehow this transcends that to me... plus the bass player is wearing a cravat and an amazing moustache of that time period... :-) beautiful bass line, intense flugel, lovely synth organ... can't get better than that! Jasper is playing an old Yamaha YC20 organ through a phaser and tape echo. Randy Pie - Through the Motions (1976) Mid 70s German AOR with a curious mixture ofjazz funk rock disco influences...set in a boxing ring... great musicianship. I shouldn't like it but as I've now played it 3 times, I guess I do ;-)... full of the classic 1970s guitar gestures, booty shaking, Kevin Keegan perm... I think the organ player is the same guy out of Frumpy... great solo... Tags: randy pie krautrock german rock funk jazz 70s AOR frumpy |
