Kingdom Hearts - Letters Song: Letters Ending Credits Song: Simple and Clean Artist: Utada Hikaru Game: Kingdom Hearts I & II Note: The Japanese romaji lyrics are at the top and the English subtitles are at the bottom. Credit for the romaji lyrics and translations goes mostly to Jonathan Wu of the Cherryblossom Garden. Please try to ignore the game subtitles in certain parts of the video. They were the only clips of those scenes I could find (in good quality) and I apologize if they are distracting. TRANSLATION NOTE: Amida-kuji is a Japanese lottery-like game that involves choosing a line and following it. If the line leads to a prize, then you win that prize. Each line leads to a definite point, but you won't know what that point is until you get there, kind of like life. =] This is the first (and probably the last) Kingdom Hearts AMV I've made. I haven't played Kingdom Hearts in several years and have never beaten the game, but I recently watched several cutscenes here on Youtube, and I think I have a decent idea of how Sora and Kairi's separation and reunion went. When I first read the translated lyrics of this song, I felt that it described Kairi's point of view perfectly. While Sora goes to fight the forces of darkness, he leaves Kairi behind, and the two of them can't see or even talk to each other for a long time. Kairi wants to be with him, but all she can do, as the song says, is send letters and believe in his promise of returning. One thing that I feel makes this song an especially good match for Kingdom Hearts is that it includes the lyrics: "Kanarazu kaeruyo" and "Okaeri," which translate to "I'll definitely return!" and "Welcome back," respectively. In Kingdom Hearts I, Sora's last line in the Japanese version is "Kanarazu zettai kaeru kara," which translates to "Somehow, I'll definitely return home!" and in the ending of Kingdom Hearts II, Kairi says "Okaeri," meaning "Welcome back" or "Welcome home" to Sora when he finally returns. I placed both of these scenes at the parts of the song where they match the lyrics, and I feel that this makes the meaning of the AMV even more special. Sailor Moon Anime/Manga Comparison 11 Before watching this video, please be sure to have read the top half of the video description for Part 1 of this series so that you understand what this project is all about. You can find Part 1 here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Om__F97WheA ----- This comparison shows the differences in the portrayal of Mamoru's psychological strength in both the anime and the manga. In the anime series, Mamoru is brainwashed two times (by Beryl & Nehelenia). In the manga, Mamoru is brainwashed three times (by Beryl, Black Lady, & Galaxia). However, his being brainwashed in the manga does not place his mental strength in a bad light because he was either under the control of a loved one, and thus highly vulnerable, or dead at the time of brainwashing. On the other hand, anime Mamoru was severely wounded, not dead, when Beryl brainwashed him, and had a piece of mirror stuck in his eye when he was pulled into Nehelenia's nightmare. Although these were rather difficult situations for Mamoru, his inability to escape from them by himself makes it seem as though he lacks the willpower that a hero should possess. In the manga, however, Mamoru is one of the most mentally stable characters. In several instances, he is shown warning the Senshi not to be fooled by the enemies' tricks and reminding them to stay strong. In the instance of Nehelenia's nightmare, especially, the differences between anime Mamoru and manga Mamoru's willpower are quite obvious. While anime Mamoru fell into Nehelenia's nightmare and had to be saved by Sailor Moon, manga Mamoru was the only one who was able to escape from the nightmare and wake Sailor Moon and the rest of the senshi. His strength of will even amazes the Outer Senshi, who think, "Prince! He left that nightmare on his own?!" Indeed, manga Mamoru seems much more princely and heroic than anime Mamoru, who must constantly be saved when he cannot save himself. THINGS TO NOTE IN THE MANGA: 'Bunny' = 'Usa' 'Darien' = 'Mamo-chan' MANGA SCENARIO: This nightmare takes place after Usagi and Mamoru learn more about the Golden Crystal from Helios and before the final battle against Nehelenia. IMPORTANT DIFFERENCES: In the manga, Mamoru is the first to excape from the nightmare and does not need to be saved by Sailor Moon. In the manga, people were not trapped in Nehelenia's nightmare after staring at mirrors. The background music during the manga section is "Bring Me to Life" by Evanescence. The images you see are not full manga pages. I split the pages into pieces so that the image can be bigger on the screen, allowing you to read the words more easily. Sailor Moon Anime/Manga Comparison 10 Before watching this video, please be sure to have read the top half of the video description for Part 1 of this series so that you understand what this project is all about. You can find Part 1 here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Om__F97WheA ----- This comparison features the portrayal of the Golden Crystal in both the anime and the manga. In the manga, the Golden Crystal is Mamoru's crystal and is said to have the same power as Usagi's Silver Crystal. Through the story of the Golden Crystal, we learn that in the Silver Millenium, Serenity and Endymion shared the same power, the same soul, and the same mission: protecting the Earth. This bond between the two has transcended time as Usagi and Mamoru still share the same dream: to protect the Earth together. Also, this part of the manga once again shows Mamoru's uncertainty about his own worth, as he has doubts that the Golden Crystal resides within him. When Usagi convinces Mamoru that he does hold great power, she effectively melts the seal of the Golden Crystal and helps Mamoru to release his true power. On the other hand, the Golden Crystal in the anime has almost no similarities with its manga counterpart. In the anime, it is never mentioned that the Golden Crystal is Mamoru's crystal, and viewers are told that it is an "energy amplification device," as Nehelenia says. Furthermore, Chibi Moon and Sailor Moon are the ones who finally use the Golden Crystal, with the help of the beautiful dreams of the people, to defeat Nehelenia. While Chibiusa took the spotlight, Mamoru was still laying helplessly in bed. While manga Mamoru's power was greatly emphasized as he and Usagi raised their crystals and rid the Earth of darkness, anime Mamoru was portrayed as weak and generally useless in the fight against Nehelenia. THINGS TO NOTE IN THE MANGA: 'Bunny' = 'Usa' 'Darien' = 'Mamo-chan' 'Nephrenia' = 'Nehelenia/Neherenia' MANGA SCENARIO: Act 40 in this comparison starts right after the end of the previous comparison, in which Usagi wakes up from her dream to find that both she and Mamoru have been taken to Elysion by Helios. IMPORTANT DIFFERENCES: In the anime, the Golden Crystal is the horn on Helios' head, while in the manga, the crystal is sealed within Mamoru. In the manga, the Golden Crystal is not an "energy amplification device" that depends on the power of beautiful dreams. It is the source of Mamoru's power, which is equivalent to that of the Silver Crystal. The background music during the manga section is "Anniversary Piano Concerto in C Minor" by Yoshiki. The images you see are not full manga pages. I split the pages into pieces so that the image can be bigger on the screen, allowing you to read the words more easily. I also excluded some panels that were not crucial to this particular comparison in order to shorten the video length. There are websites where you can download the scans of the entire manga series! Sailor Moon - a little pain Song: a little pain Artist: OLIVIA inspi' REIRA (TRAPNEST) Anime: Sailor Moon Note: The Japanese romaji lyrics are at the top and the English subtitles are at the bottom. Credit for the romaji lyrics and translations goes mostly to Cori of Cori's Jpop Lyrics Homepage. This AMV focuses on Usagi's experiences of missing Mamoru throughout the first, R, and Stars seasons. No matter what happens, she will always wait for him, trusting that their love will bring him back. The song is from the anime NANA. This AMV is dedicated to one of my dearest friends, Anne (anneliese22), who first introduced me to this song and encouraged me to make this video. Anne, thank you for supporting me from the start and helping me to develop as an AMV-maker. I truly appreciate your friendship. This AMV was made with Ulead VideoStudio 11. I used mostly cross-fades and some white flashes because I felt that fancy effects/transitions would be unnecessary in this video. The lyrics alone are extremely powerful. In my opinion, this is the best lyrics-matching I've done so far. After being struck by inspiration, I really felt that this song's lyrics could not be more perfect. And a special thank you to Jordan (Jordan1793) for encouraging me after seeing a preview of this AMV. Your words kept me going when I was feeling unsure about this video. Also, the official title of the song is not capitalized. (Just wanted to point out that it's not a mistake) =] Please enjoy, rate, and comment! Thank you! ^^ Wow, I've never gotten honors before. Sailor Moon Anime/Manga Comparison 9 Before watching this video, please be sure to have read the top half of the video description for Part 1 of this series so that you understand what this project is all about. You can find Part 1 here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Om__F97WheA ----- This comparison features Usagi's dream about Mamoru in both the anime and the manga. In the anime, Usagi has a dream about Mamoru during the battle in the SuperS movie. Many fans of the anime have felt disappointed that this scene, which shows Mamoru as being more tender and romantic than he has been throughout the entire series, is only a dream. In contrast, this type of dream is unnecessary in the manga because Mamoru is often shown actually being romantic towards Usagi (Do the embraces in Comparisons 2 & 6 remind you of anything? ^_^). Thus, the dream in the manga is a bit different. It still has the same basic concept: a dream in which Mamoru is much sweeter/cuter than he really is, to the point where it starts getting a bit ridiculous. But there are two major differences in these dreams. One: Mamoru seems almost evil in the anime dream as he tries to distract Usagi from her misson to save everyone, while the dream in the manga shows a harmless and adorable, although very eager to please, young Mamoru. Two: Mamoru never has a chance to redeem himself after this dream in which he appears somewhat evil since he does not appear in the SuperS movie after this scene. In the manga, however, it is Mamoru himself who wakes Usagi from the dream, and as you will see in later comparisons, shows that he is equally wonderful, and more realistically so, in comparison to the Mamoru in Usagi's dream. THINGS TO NOTE IN THE MANGA: 'Bunny' = 'Usa-chan' by dream Mamoru; 'Usa' by real Mamoru 'Darien' = 'Mamo-chan' 'Nephrenia' = 'Nehelenia/Neherenia' MANGA SCENARIO: The curse mentioned in this act involves a black rose stuck inside both Helios and Mamoru's chest due to their links to the Earth and Elysion, which is now Nehelenia's spell. Usagi has also gotten the curse due to her close link with Mamoru. The first stage of the curse caused Usagi and Mamoru to cough up black blood. IMPORTANT DIFFERENCES: In the anime dream, Mamoru is trying to distract Sailor Moon from her mission. In the manga, Mamoru wakes Usagi up rather than Usagi waking herself up. The background music during the manga section is the instrumental, or "hydeless" version of the song "MY HEART DRAWS A DREAM" by L'arc~en~Ciel. I think the reason I used this song is pretty obvious. =] The images you see are not full manga pages. I split the pages into pieces so that the image can be bigger on the screen, allowing you to read the words more easily. Sailor Moon Anime/Manga Comparison 8 Before watching this video, please be sure to have read the top half of the video description for Part 1 of this series so that you understand what this project is all about. You can find Part 1 here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Om__F97WheA ----- This comparison features Helios and Chibiusa's first kiss in both the anime and the manga. In both versions, this scene was very touching. However, in the manga, the kiss seems to hold more meaning and significance than the anime kiss. In the anime, Helios and Chibiusa kiss after Chibiusa's wish to be able to keep seeing Pegasus changes her back to her normal size (She and Usagi had switched heights/ages). The kiss was used mostly as a sweet way to end an emotional scene. Meanwhile, the kiss in the manga was an important part of Chibiusa's character development throughout the SuperS season. As mentioned in Comparison 7, Chibiusa's idolization of Usagi/Sailor Moon and her dream to become a mature woman just like Usagi are major themes in the SuperS manga. Thus, when Chibiusa sees the tremendous power that Super Sailor Moon holds and feels that she isn't even close to being that strong, she feels heartbroken and useless. Furthermore, when she realizes that Sailor Moon is probably the maiden Helios had been searching for, a role that Chibiusa thought she herself could fill, she is obviously devastated. Thus, the kiss comes at a significant moment. When Chibiusa is questioning her own worth and losing hope that her dreams will ever come true, Helios reassures her with a kiss. Here, the kiss is a symbol of Chibiusa's step towards maturity and also gives her hope that yes, her dream of finding her own prince WILL come true. THINGS TO NOTE IN THE MANGA: 'Bunny' = 'Usagi' 'Rini' = 'Chibi-Usa' MANGA SCENARIO: Act 35: Early on in this act, Usagi and Chibiusa switched ages/heights because of a spell placed on them by PallaPalla (see Comparison 7). When Fish-Eye attacks Ami at her apartment, Usagi and Chibiusa arrive to help. After they transform, Usagi and Chibiusa go back to their normal sizes and defeat Fish-Eye. IMPORTANT DIFFERENCES: In the anime, Chibiusa IS the maiden Helios is looking for. In the manga, PallaPalla's spell, the "magic of the new moon," did not cover Chibiusa's "true dream". In the anime, Chibiusa never says directly that she wants to be just like Usagi. Nor does she feel hopelessly useless in comparison to Usagi/Sailor Moon. The background music during the manga section is called "Tears" by Yoshiki. The chorus of the song includes the following line: "Dry your tears with love." I thought that line fit the manga situation, and the music also fit the emotions on the pages at the right times. The images you see are not full manga pages. I split the pages into pieces so that the image can be bigger on the screen, allowing you to read the words more easily. Sailor Moon Christmas Poem This is a cute sound drama from the Sailor Moon Christmas Single, which is part of the Sailor Stars Senshi Singles collection. It takes place during the Stars season, sometime between Mamoru's departure and the final battle with Galaxia. It's pretty obvious, but just to clarify, the different font colors on the video each correspond to a specific character: White - Usagi (Mitsuishi Kotono) Blue - Ami (Hisakawa Aya) Red - Rei (Tomizawa Michie) Green - Makoto (Shinohara Emi) Orange - Minako (Fukami Rica) In addition to this poem, the Sailor Moon Christmas Single CD also included a Prologue and a song called Sailor Moon Christmas, part of which plays during the credits in this video. Enjoy, and happy holidays! ^_^ Tags: bishoujo senshi sailor moon christmas single poem usagi mamoru sound drama anime stars seiyuu inner peach hips amv mamo |

Sailor Moon Anime/Manga Comparison 7 Before watching this video, please be sure to have read the top half of the video description for Part 1 of this series so that you understand what this project is all about. You can find Part 1 here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Om__F97WheA ----- This video compares the incident during SuperS in which Usagi and Chibiusa switch ages/heights in both the anime and the manga. In the anime, this incident was used mainly to develop the relationship between Chibiusa and Helios (this occurs later in the episode, which is not shown in this video). In the manga, both the relationships of Chibiusa/Helios and Usagi/Mamoru were developed. One would think that if Mamoru's girlfriend and future daughter were to switch bodies, a decent amount of screen-time should be dedicated to showing his reaction to such an unusual situation. Instead, anime Mamoru gets one line throughout this entire incident: "I know...This is Candid Camera, isn't it...?" Sure, this might add about 5 seconds of humor to the episode (or not), but using Mamoru as a humor device really does nothing to develop his character in a positive way. On the contrary, manga Mamoru handles the situation more calmly. He also shows some humorous reactions, but this is followed by a more serious scene between him and Usagi, in which the reader learns more about Usagi's dream and how Mamoru feels about his role in Usagi's life. In addition, Chibiusa is given her share of character development as the reader understands that Chibiusa's dream is to grow up and find a prince of her own. This contributes to a recurring theme in the SuperS manga, in which Chibiusa is shown to look up to Usagi and wants to grow up to be just like her. THINGS TO NOTE IN THE MANGA: 'Bunny' = 'Usagi' 'Bun/Buns' = 'Usako' 'Darien' = 'Mamo-chan' when said by Usagi & Chibiusa, 'Mamoru-san' when said by others 'Rini' = 'Chibi-Usa' MANGA SCENARIO: Act 34: Helios first appears to both Usagi and Chibiusa, saying "Help me, Maiden." At this point, neither Usagi, Chibiusa, nor even Helios himself knows exactly who this maiden is. Then, as soon as the Dead Moon Circus lands during the eclipse, Mamoru begins to feel a stinging in his chest. That night, Helios appears again in Chibiusa's dreams, asking for the Golden Crystal, making Chibiusa believe that she, not Usagi, is indeed the Maiden. At the end of this act, Mamoru collapses during a battle due to the stinging in his chest. After winning the battle, Usagi and Chibiusa transform out of their sailor uniforms so they can take Mamoru to the hospital. Their transformation is disturbed by PallaPalla's Reverse Gem, which causes them to switch ages/heights. IMPORTANT DIFFERENCES: In the anime, Mamoru never openly admits to feeling unworthy of Usagi. Chibiusa's dream to grow up and find her own prince is never discussed in the anime. The background music during the manga section is "Beautiful World" by Utada Hikaru. This was my favorite song during the time I was making this video, and I thought the lyrics fit extremely well. Here's a translation of the chorus: "If I can be granted just one wish, Then let me sleep next to you. Anywhere will do. Beautiful world. I would look only at you unwaveringly. Beautiful boy. You don't know yet just how beautiful you are." I thought it fit the situation perfectly, since Usagi's dream is simply to be near Mamoru, while Mamoru doesn't yet realize his own worth. The images you see are not full manga pages. I split the pages into pieces so that the image can be bigger on the screen, allowing you to read the words more easily. I also excluded some panels that were not crucial to this particular comparison in order to shorten the video length. There are websites where you can download the scans of the entire manga series! You can find Part 1 here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Om__F97WheA ----- This is different from the other comparisons in that it is an IMAGE comparison, rather than an anime video clip vs. manga pages comparison. As you will see, there are many obvious similarities between the manga and anime images, especially in respect to poses. This is probably because the anime creators used some of Naoko Takeuchi's original manga drawings as the basis for their own images. Some of the anime images shown in this video weren't included in the actual Sailor Moon show, but were instead used on various pieces of Sailor Moon merchandise, such as trading cards and stickers. The song in the background is "This is Love" by Utada Hikaru. Some of the images were flipped horizontally so that the similarities can be seen more easily. Sailor Moon Anime/Manga Comparison 6 Before watching this video, please be sure to have read the top half of the video description for Part 1 of this series so that you understand what this project is all about. You can find Part 1 here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Om__F97WheA ----- This comparison shows a major aspect of the first half of the S "season" in the manga that was entirely non-existant in the anime. This major aspect would be the jealousy Usagi and Mamoru feel towards Michiru and Haruka, respectively. Yes, this comparison does include a clip from the anime where Usagi seems to be jealous of Michiru, but in context, this short scene was nothing more than a piece of humor. In contrast, the themes of jealousy, mystery, and insecurity were explored deeply in the S "season" of the manga. The manga images shown in this video are only a few of the instances in the manga where these themes were explored. There were many such scenes woven into at least 3 acts of the S "season" manga, all of which contributed to a slight tension between Usagi and Mamoru throughout these 3 acts. With the resolution of this tension, the Usagi and Mamoru are able to have more faith in each other. This is a development in their relationship that was never strongly emphasized in the anime, in which Usagi is sometimes jealous and sometimes not jealous of other women in the SuperS season (not jealous of Saori, jealous of Fish-Eye). Moreover, it is Chibi-Usa who plays a major part in bringing an end to this tension in the manga by creating an opportunity for Usagi and Mamoru to clear up their misunderstandings. This shows a sweet side to Chibi-Usa that is not often seen in the anime. THINGS TO NOTE IN THE MANGA: 'Bunny' = 'Usagi' 'Bun/Buns' = 'Usako' 'Darien' = 'Mamo-chan' 'Rini' = 'Chibi-Usa' MANGA SCENARIO: The Senshi have strong suspicions that the two mysterious Sailor Senshi that have been appearing (Uranus & Neptune) are Haruka and Michiru and so they have decided to be cautious of them. The Senshi also have yet to discover that Haruka is a female, which is why she may be referred to as "he." IMPORTANT DIFFERENCES: Anime Mamoru is never shown to be jealous of anyone who shows an attraction to Usagi. In the anime, Haruka never kisses Usagi. The background music during the manga section is called "Silent Jealousy" by Yoshiki. I think you can probably guess why I chose this song. =] The images you see are not full manga pages. I split the pages into pieces so that the image can be bigger on the screen, allowing you to read the words more easily. Sailor Moon Anime/Manga Comparison 5 Before watching this video, please be sure to have read the top half of the video description for Part 1 of this series so that you understand what this project is all about. You can find Part 1 here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Om__F97WheA ----- This comparison focuses on Pluto's stopping of time in both the anime and the manga. In the manga, this event takes place during the R "season," during the battle against Wiseman and Black Lady. In the anime, Pluto stops time during the S season, before the battle with Mistress 9. Overall, the act of stopping time seems to hold much more significance in the manga, because it is the ONLY way to save the world from being completely destroyed. The significance of this action in the manga contributes to the characterization of Pluto as powerful, self-sacrificing, and aware of her duty to the Royal Family. THINGS TO NOTE IN THE MANGA: 'Rini'='Chibi-usa' Pluto has been the guardian of the time gate since childhood, at which time Queen Serenity of the Silver Millenium told her about her duties and responsibilities as Guardian of Time. There are 3 taboos that Pluto cannot break as Guardian of Time. She cannot allow time travel, cannot leave the Gate of Time, and cannot stop time. MANGA SCENARIO: Act 22: Pluto has already broken the first two taboos by allowing the Senshi of the past to travel to the future and by leaving the Gate of Time to join the battle. Mamoru, brainwashed by Black Lady, takes Sailor Moon's Silver Imperium Crystal, leaving her powerless and unconscious. Black Lady then takes the Silver Crystal from Mamoru and now holds both the Silver Crystals of the future and the past. Prince Demando then snatches both crystals from Black Lady. IMPORTANT DIFFERENCES: The story of Queen Serenity teaching the 3 taboos to Pluto shows Pluto's immense dedication to the Royal Family, which goes all the way back to the time of the Silver Millenium. It also shows that Pluto has led a solitary life since childhood. In the manga, Pluto's death plays a major factor in turning Black Lady back into Small Lady and then into Sailor Chibi Moon. It is obvious in the manga that Pluto is very dedicated to the Royal Family and has a strong friendship with Small Lady, who calls Pluto her "only friend." Pluto's desire to fight alongside the other Senshi and her idolization of Sailor Moon is stressed in the manga. The images you see are not full manga pages. Sailor Moon Anime/Manga Comparison 4 Before watching this video, please be sure to have read the top half of the video description for Part 1 of this series so that you understand what this project is all about. You can find Part 1 here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Om__F97WheA ----- This comparison focuses on the differences and similarities between the stories of the Silver Millenium as told in the anime and the manga. All of the major scenes in which the Silver Millenium is discussed are used. As you will find, the anime actually followed Queen Serenity's "voiceover" in the manga pretty closely. However, there are evident differences in the overall "aura" of the story and the way Serenity and Endymion die. THINGS TO NOTE IN THE MANGA: MANGA SCENARIO: Act 9: Tuxedo Mask has been fatally injured after taking a hit that was meant for Sailor Moon. Act 10: The Sailor Senshi travel to the moon and meet a hologram of Queen Serenity. Act 12: While trapped within Metalia before the final battle (mentioned in comparison 3), Sailor Moon has a flashback to the Silver Millenium. IMPORTANT DIFFERENCES: In the manga, Serenity is portrayed as more "goddess-like" than she is in the anime. The theme of "forbidden love" is emphasized in the manga. The relationship between Serenity and Endymion is more ethereal and less stiff in the manga than in the anime. In the manga, Endymion dies while protecting Serenity, after which Serenity commits suicide. The background music in the manga section is the piano version of 'First Love' by Utada Hikaru. I think everyone is fairly familiar with episode 44 in the anime, which is why I decided to show only a handful of scenes, since the Silver Millenium story takes up over 15 minutes in that episode. I selected parts of scenes that I thought would be especially important in showing both similarities and differences. The images you see are not full manga pages. I split the pages into pieces so that the image can be bigger on the screen, allowing you to read the words more easily. I also excluded some panels that were not crucial to this particular comparison in order to shorten the video length. Even so, the manga pages in this particular comparison will move fairly quickly, so you'll need to read a bit faster or pause the video on each "page." Sorry, but it was the only way I could keep the video under 10 minutes. ^^; There are websites where you can download the scans of the entire manga series! Sailor Moon - What Have You Done Song: What Have You Done Artist: Within Temptation (ft. Keith Caputo) Anime: Sailor Moon This AMV is about Usagi & Mamoru during season one, in which their love seemed rather ill-fated. I used clips from both the Silver Millenium and the fight against "evil Endymion" to emphasize the concept that even in two lifetimes, there seems to be a "curse" between them. I realize that there are a few other Sailor Moon AMV's featuring this song. I did watch all of them before making my own to make sure that mine would not just be a remake of someone else's idea. If there are any sequences in this video that match someone else's video exactly, it was unintentional and I apologize. Enjoy! Sailor Moon Anime/Manga Comparison 3 Before watching this video, please be sure to have read the top half of the video description for Part 1 of this series so that you understand what this project is all about. You can find Part 1 here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Om__F97WheA ----- This comparison is between episode 46 of the anime and acts 12 & 13 of the manga. The scene being compared is the one in which Sailor Moon defeats Queen Metalia/Beryl at the end of Season 1. Overall, the manga seems to emphasize the power within Sailor Moon herself, rather than portraying Princess Serenity as her most powerful form. The manga also shows Sailor Moon receiving help from all her loved ones (including Luna and Mamoru) rather than just her friends (the four inner senshi). THINGS TO NOTE IN THE MANGA: 'Darien' = 'Mamo-chan' 'Bunny' = 'Usagi' MANGA SCENARIO: In Act 11, Queen Beryl was killed by Sailor Venus with a sacred sword from the Moon Kingdom. After a struggle between the Sailor Senshi and evil Endymion, which ended with Sailor Moon stabbing Endymion and then herself with the sacred sword, an unconscious Sailor Moon and Endymion were swallowed up by Queen Metalia. Sometime during the process, Endymion/Mamoru was blinded. Luna and Artemis go to the moon to seek the aid of the spirit of Queen Serenity. Meanwhile, the four senshi use the power from their transformation pens, the same thing as laying down their lives, to attack Metalia and try to awaken Sailor Moon from within Metalia. IMPORTANT DIFFERENCES: In the manga, Sailor Moon battles Queen Metalia, rather than a combination of Beryl and Metalia. Manga Mamoru is physically there to help Sailor Moon in the fight against Metalia. The manga shows Luna's devotion to Usagi to be much deeper than it is in the anime. Manga Sailor Moon does not turn into Princess Serenity in order to defeat Metalia. The background music playing during the manga part is "Kurenai" by Yoshiki. The images you see are not full manga pages. I split the pages into pieces so that the image can be bigger on the screen, allowing you to read the words more easily. I also excluded some panels that were not crucial to this particular comparison in order to shorten the video length. There are websites where you can download the scans of the entire manga series! Sailor Moon Anime/Manga Comparison 2 Before watching this video, please be sure to have read the top half of the video description for Part 1 of this series so that you understand what this project is all about. You can find Part 1 here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Om__F97WheA ------ This comparison is between Episode 61 of the anime (in which Mamoru breaks up with Usagi due to recurring dreams that predict her death if they stay together) and Act 18 of the manga. These scenes may seem to have nothing in common, but they are important in showing the differences in characterization during the R season, especially for Mamoru. The breakup during the R season was likely added by the animators to create more emotional tension in the show (however, the manga had plenty of emotional appeal without sacrificing the integrity of Mamoru's character). THINGS TO NOTE IN THE MANGA: 'Darien' = 'Mamo-chan' 'Buns' = 'Usako' MANGA SCENARIO: Mercury, Mars, and Jupiter have been kidnapped by the Black Moon Clan. Chibi-Usa (Rini) has just told Usagi and company that she came from the 30th century. Venus and Moon urge her to take them to the future so they can help her, but Chibi-Usa is reluctant. Tuxedo Mask, seeing that Chibi-Usa is worried, suggests that they stop pushing her for now. Usagi then suggests that they go home, at which point Chibi-Usa says she'll stay at Mamoru's place. IMPORTANT DIFFERENCES: In the manga, Mamoru never breaks up with Usagi. As you can see for yourself, Mamoru is much more romantic and tender in the manga than in the anime. The images you see are not full manga pages. I split the pages into top and bottom halves so that the image can be bigger on the screen, allowing you to read the words more easily. The song playing in the background for the manga section is called "Selenite" by Rurutia. I know it's not exactly the best music to read a romantic scene to, but the lyrics matched so perfectly that I just couldn't resist. English translation of the chorus: My heart begins to tremble as you pull me close so sweetly Forever, always and forever, I want to hold you So that you won't disappear There are websites where you can download the scans of the entire manga series! Sailor Moon Anime/Manga Comparison 1 There are websites where you can download the scans of the entire manga series! Please feel free to message me or comment this video to ask for a link to such a website. I'll be more than happy to send it to you! ^_^ ABOUT THIS PROJECT: This is the first part of a project I've decided to undertake to compare the Sailor Moon anime with the manga. The goal is to point out scenes that seem somewhat similar but are actually very different, especially in respect to how the characters are portrayed. If you would like to see how a particular scene in the anime was shown in the manga, or if you have read the manga and would like to suggest a scene comparison, feel free to request it and I'll see what I can do. Although the anime was based on the original manga of Naoko Takeuchi, the animators changed a lot of things, including parts of the storyline and characterization. This is not to say that the anime completely ruined Takeuchi's story, since it did add more humor, color, and life to the story. However, being a team of all males, the animators were at times unable to fully connect with the female audience as Miss Takeuchi was able to. One major example of this is the obvious difference between anime Mamoru and manga Mamoru. While the male animators tried to portray anime Mamoru as more "manly" by making him stiff and aloof, Takeuchi portrayed manga Mamoru as, in the eyes of most girls, the ideal man: tender, loving, and strong. Because I'm rather disappointed with the anime portrayal of one of my favorite characters (Mamoru), you may notice that many of my comparisons will involve scenes with him and Usagi. I hope that with this project, I can encourage more people to read the true, original masterpiece: the manga. ----- This particular comparison compares Mamoru's departure in Episode 173 of the anime with Act 43 of the manga. A FEW THINGS TO NOTE IN THIS VIDEO: In the Tokyopop translation of the manga, 'Darien'='Mamo-chan', 'Bunny' (when said by Mamoru)='Usa'. Mamoru also sometimes calls her 'Buns,' which is the same as 'Usako.' When the manga was translated from Japanese to English, all the pages were flipped to allow American readers to read from left to right (Japanese mangas read from right to left). That's why, in this video, it seems that Usagi's ring is on her right hand, when it is really her left in the original Japanese manga. As you're watching, look at the way... Mamoru & Usagi arrive at the airport TOGETHER in the manga. Mamoru embraces & kisses Usagi in the manga vs. the anime. MAMORU is the first one to say that he'll write and call Usagi in the manga. Sailor Moon - Inconsolable Song: Inconsolable Band: Backstreet Boys Anime: Sailor Moon Ending Credits Song: Innocence - Avril Lavigne This is a Usagi & Mamoru R Season breakup AMV. It's entirely from Mamoru's point of view and deals with the pain he felt during the breakup and his struggle to keep the dream a secret. I know this song was really meant to be about wanting to confess love to somebody and not being able to, but when I heard it, I thought it'd also fit the breakup scenario because in this case, it's because Mamoru is not confessing the real reason he's staying away from Usagi that they're broken up. The AMV was made entirely from Sailor Moon R Season clips. I do have both the subbed and dubbed versions of those episodes, so any subtitles you see are meant to be there. They contribute to the meaning behind the lyrics, but if you're used to ignoring subtitles on AMV's, it won't really affect your understanding of the AMV at all. I didn't include the scene where Usagi & Mamoru get back together because the song itself doesn't really end happily. However, I did make the ending credits AMV a happy one so I hope you guys won't feel too sad after watching this. ^^; This video took me about 5 entire days (meaning I basically slept, ate, and worked on this) to make. Of course, I didn't spend 5 consecutive days on this, but it was still a very long process. This is probably the AMV that I've spent the longest time making so far. For one, the clips needed a lot of editing to get the timing just right, unlike my other AMV's, where the clips seemed to just fall into place nicely. I also made a couple of split-screen scenes, which are rather complicated to do on Ulead 11. I hope you guys enjoy this! Please rate & comment! Sailor Moon - Big Big World Song: Big Big World Artist: Emilia Anime: Sailor Moon Wow, I can't believe I finished this in one day. I've always thought this song went really well with Usagi's emotions when she was preparing to see Mamoru off to America. She tries to be brave and act like it's not a big deal, but inside she feels that she can't go on without him. Poor Usagi. =( But anyways, I didn't make this sooner because I wasn't sure what to put for the verses: "I can see the first leaf falling. It's all yellow and nice." That is, until I rewatched episode 28 (The Illustration of Love; Usagi and Mamoru getting closer?) with that scene where the leaf falls into a reflection of Tuxedo Mask in a pond. I know it's from a completely different season but screw that. It fits. ;D Oh, and this is the first AMV for which I've made a mini-AMV for the ending credits. The song is Who Knew by Pink. ♥ 2nd Place Winner - Silver Moon Crystal Contest (Round 22) ♥ ♥ 2nd Place Winner - Anne's Sailor Moon AMV Contest (Round 6) ♥ So without further ado...please enjoy, rate, & comment! ^^ DISCLAIMER: This video is PURELY fan made.
