GETTYSBURG Compilation 3 Robert F Maxwell's first film in his Civil War Trilogy (The 3rd is still to be made)which was based on the book "The Killer Angels". The Film revolves around General James Longstreet but overlooks his often criticised behaviour during the Gettysburg campaign. This video depicts events on the first day as the outnumbered Union forces try to delay the Confederates of A.P. Hills III Corps until reinforcements could arrive. The video shows the death of MAJ GEN John Reynolds when leading his troops into battle, the first General officer to die at Gettysburg. GETTYSBURG Compilation 2 ( Command & Control Failures) Robert F Maxwell's first film in his Civil War Trilogy (The 3rd is still to be made)which was based on the book "The Killer Angels". This movie, whilst being historically accurate in depicting the events of July 1863, fails to outline in detail the command and control failures which cost the Confederates this turning point battle in the Civil War. This video deals with Gen Richard Ewell's failure to take the heights beyond Gettysburg on the first day, an error which cost the Conferderates the chance to turn the Union flank.Divisional Commander in Ewell's Corps, MAJ GEN Isaac Trimble is seen here complaining to General Lee about Ewell's conduct. For the first time Lee realises his re-organisation of the army is flawed and could cost him the battle. This movie, whilst being historically accurate in depicting the events of July 1863, fails to outline in detail the command and control failures which cost the Confederates this turning point battle in the Civil War. The 2 instances in which this subject is briefly referred to is the incident with J.E.B. Stuart and Ewell's failure to function on the first day.Certainly these shortcomings were to have a major influence on the Battle but the movie does not highlight the bizarre and insubordinate behaviour of General James Longstreet and the unsuitability of General A.P. Hill for corps command. In this scene General Robert E Lee, superbly played by Martin Sheen, confronts his cavalry commander J.E.B. Stuart. Gods & Generals Compilation 3 From Robert F Maxwell's controversial biography of General Thomas "Stonewall Jackson", outstandingly played by Stephen Lang. This video shows Jackson outlining his ruthless strategy of waging war to Cavalry Commander J.E.B. Stuart. His vision of "Total War" was not shared by the Confederate Government and subsequently they paid the ultimate price for trying to wage a limited war against the Federals.Robert E Lee had to restrain Jackson on more than one occasion, not because he disagreed fundamentally with Jackson's strategy, but due to political pressures from Jefferson Davis. Ironically it was not until after Jackson's death that the Federal Commanders U.S. Grant and William Sherman employed the very same tactics that Jackson had advocated years earlier and brought the Confederacy to its knees. Gods & Generals Compilation 4 From Robert F Maxwell's controversial biography of General Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson, outstandingly played by Stephen Lang. This video shows the brilliant flank attack by Jackson's II Corps at Chancellorsville that almost destroyed the Union Army of the Potomac.Only the mortal wounding of Jackson prevented the crushing of the Federals and the possible loss of the war.Instead the Union forces were allowed to re-group and fight a strategic withdrawal to escape from the death trap Jackson and Lee had engineered. The tragic incident of Jackson's death at Chancellorsville would lead to the re-organisation of The Army of Northern Virginia, which would ultimately contribute to senior command failures which cost the Confederates the Battle of Gettysburg. F1 HEROES......NIGEL MANSELL My Classic all time Grand Prix driver tribute collection. Nigel Mansell was one of the most exciting Formula 1 drivers ever and always gave 100% to his sport.Although maybe not as technically gifted as a few of his contempories MANSELL'S "point and squirt" driving technique was often extremely effective and allied to his fierce determination meant that he was a dangerous and able opponent.Although MANSELL was a fierce competitor he also was prone to displaying signs of paranoia, often perceiving he was the victim of injustice and unequal treatment. MANSELL started his F1 Career with the Lotus team ran by Colin Chapman. Mansell was taken under Chapman's guidance and Chapman became his mentor.MANSELL was devastated by Chapman's untimely death in 1982 and his relationship with lotus never was the same. MANSELL was the surprise choice to join Williams in 1985 to partner 1982 World Champion KEKE ROSBERG.The last few years at Lotus had done nothing to enhance MANSELL'S reputation and most observers at the time saw him as a journeyman driver and nothing else. However at Williams he started to show signs of the potential Chapman had saw in him and he won his first race at the European Grand Prix and followed that up with another win in the penultimate race of the season in South Africa, ending the season only 9 points behind Rosberg. Season 1986 saw the arrival of twice World Champion NELSON PIQUET whom MANSELL disliked and did not trust.Things deteriorated even further when PIQUET critisised MANSELL and insulted his wife in a magazine article.MANSELL responded on the track, outscoring PIQUET in the championship but ultimately blowing the title in Mexico where he only had to finish in the top three to clinch the title. A tyre blowout in the last race of the season in Australia handed the title to ALAIN PROST. For 1987 the relationship between the two drivers had completely broken down and during the season MANSELL started to complain about unfair equipment and underpowered engines.Indeed when PIQUET announced he was moving to Lotus the next season and Honda decided to take their engines as well, MANSELL could have been proved correct. However MANSELL was still challenging, despite a number of suspicious technical problems in Hungary and Italy. At Japan in the penultimate race MANSELL pushed too hard and spun off in practice, badly injuring his back.Unable to race the title was handed to PIQUET with two races remaining. For 1988 Williams were equipped with the normally aspirated V8 engines from John Judd but these were no match for the Turbo's at McLaren and Lotus. It proved to be a fruitless campaign for MANSELL despite picking up points at Silverstone and in Spain. For 1989 MANSELL switched to Ferrari and won his first race in Brazil agaianst all the odds. The remainder of the season was a struggle to compete with the McLaren Honda's and overcome the dubious reliabilty of the Ferrari 640's semi automatic gearbox. Season 1990 saw MANSELL twinned with ALAIN PROST who brought the World Title with him after a attritional battle with SENNA. PROST lost no time in asserting himself over MANSELL in all areas of the team and this led to MANSELL'S paranoia resurfacing. At the British Grand Prix after retiring his stricken Ferrari MANSELL announced his retirement the following season. This was to be short lived as Frank William's offered MANSELL number 1 status in the all new Williams FW14 powered by the superb Renault V10 engine. Mansell was back at his competative best also given the comfort blanket of being number 1 driver in a British team. After a slow start he got his act together and ran AYRTON SENNA to the wire in the race for the championship. But the writing was on the wall and next years Williams FW14B was the car to have. MANSELL simply ran amok and had the championship tied up by Hungary. However the spectre of his old adversary PROST was on the horizon with Renault putting Williams under severe pressure to contract the Frenchman for the following season. After being number 1 driver for 2 years MANSELL was not about to let this happen and gave Williams an ultimatum over money and status.Frank Williams called MANSELL'S bluff and the new World Champion left F1 to race Indycars. where he won the title in his first season. MANSELL was lured back to drive for Williams for 4 races in 1994 where he won in Australia. The next year he signed for McLaren but all sorts of problems were encountered including being too big to fit in the car and the actual car being the worst McLaren had ever produced.MANSELL lasted just 2 races before deciding to call it a day. NIGEL MANSELL: Born 08.08.53 Upton Upon Severn, Great Britain Grand Prix Starts: 187 Wins: 31 Poles: 32 Fastest Laps: 30 Points Accumulated: 480 World Titles: 1 1992: Williams- Renault FW14B V10 TEAMS: LOTUS: 1980-84 WILLIAMS: 1985-88 FERRARI: 1989-90 WILLIAMS: 1991-92 NEWMAN-HASS: 1993-94 WILLIAMS: 1994 McLAREN: 1995 Tags: nigel mansell ayrton senna williams red5 ferrari silverstone alain prost lotus |

F1 HEROES......ALAIN PROST My Classic all time Grand Prix driver tribute collection. ALAIN PROST was a four time World Champion who was revered for his smooth, effortless driving technique and intelligent racecraft. PROST was also a highly skilled negotiator who maximised his position within the various teams he drove for to ensure the best equipment and number 1 status. This strategy was thrown into disarray in 1988 by the arrival of AYRTON SENNA as his new team mate at McLaren. SENNA consistantly outdrove PROST on his way to his first World Title. PROST responded the next season, using his brilliant racecraft to combat the quicker SENNA, although continuing to complain during the course of the season about alleged preferential treatment of SENNA by McLaren management.Prost clashed with McLaren principle Ron Dennis and was threatened with disciplinary action over his comments. The two drivers developed an intense dislike for each other and this culminated in the infamous incident at Suzuka in Japan where PROST blatantly collided with SENNA at the chicane, ensuring that the Frenchman would win his third World Title.PROST then left McLaren and signed up at Ferrari as number 1 driver alongside NIGEL MANSELL. PROST outmanouvered the Englishman both on and off the track during 1990 causing MANSELL to retire at the end of the season. As in 1989 there was a controversial ending to this season when SENNA took out PROST at the first corner in Japan to win his second World Title. PROST was livid at what he saw as a revenge move from his bitter rival for what had happened the previous year and verbally attacked SENNA. Season 1991 saw a lacklustre performance from PROST struggling with an uncompetative Ferrari 642/3 and resulted in the Frenchman being sacked after being critical about the teams management. An enforced sabbatical in 1992 ended with PROST signing for Williams replacing the World Champion NIGEL MANSELL who went off to drive Indycars in America, sickened by the underhand manouveres of PROST and Frank Williams refusal to accept his demands. Williams were in fact under pressure to contract Prost by engine suppliers Renault who wanted him to replace MANSELL. PROST went on to win his fourth world title in the superior Williams FW15C despite a brilliant challenge by SENNA in his inferior McLaren. With SENNA joining Williams for 1994 PROST retired at the end of 1993, probably to avoid being beaten again by his nemesis. ALAIN PROST: Born 24.02.55 Lorrete, France Grand Prix Starts: 200 Wins: 51 Poles: 33 Fastest Laps: 41 Points Accumulated: 798.5 World Titles: 4 1985: McLAREN MP4/2B TAG V6 1986: McLAREN MP4/2C TAG V6 1989: McLAREN MP4/5 HONDA V10 1993: WILLIAMS FW15C RENAULT V10 Tags: alain prost ayrton senna nigel mansell F1 williams ferrari honda renault |

THE PRISONER...Compilation 1 The most discussed and controversial Cult TV Series ever made. With the long running series "Danger Man" (Secret Agent in the US) Holding no further scope for development, Patrick McGoohan decided to quit from the series. This sudden and unalterable decision from McGoohan enraged ITC and its owner, Lew Grade, as the latest colour episodes had only been running for 2 weeks. However when McGoohan suggested ITC fund a new spy series Grade agreed as he had always looked upon McGoohan as the "Golden Child" of ITC. McGoohan felt that "Danger Man" had ran its course but the character of John Drake was worthy of further development in another format. This was therefore the original concept of "The Prisoner" THE PRISONER (1967-68) STARRING PATRICK McGOOHAN as Number 6 Country of Origin : UK Original Transmission Date: 01.10.1967 Episodes : 17 Episode Runtime : 52 mins Tags: patrick mcgoohan prisoner itc secret agent danger man 60's |

MAN IN A SUITCASE Compilation 1 The most underated adventure series ever to come out of Britain, "Man in a Suitcase" featured American method actor Richard Bradford as McGill, ex CIA Agent and now a private investigator in swinging sixties London. The series was a complete change from the usual ITC Adventure series featuring very British heroes such as John Steed and Simon Templar. McGill was a surly, unco-operative and rude anti hero who mumbled his lines through a cigarrette and was prone to random acts of severe violence. He also drove a Hillman Imp!!! The usual format of the episodes involved McGill getting the crap beaten out of him before solving the case and pocketing his "fee plus expenses". British audiences were taken aback by "Man in a suitcase" and never really took to Bradfords cleverly constructed character. ITC cancelled the series after one season due to falling ratings, Bradford went back to the States and his career went into freefall, which was unfortunate because he was a fine actor. Despite this "Man in a Suitcase" remains a vintage cult series in which the anti hero character of McGill was to be the forerunner of classic series such as "Callan" MAN IN A SUITCASE (1967-68) Country of Origin : UK Original Transmission Date : 27.09.67 Episodes : 30 Episode Length : 49 mins STARRING RICHARD BRADFORD AS McGILL Tags: richard bradford man in a suitcase itc adventure series secret agents cia |
