| Kotobuki we have been doing Japanese Dance for two months, and as it was our last lesson today, we had a little performance. This is the first dance we learned, (beginning cut off), 'Kotobuki' Kotobuki is a celebratory dance, which, according to my dance teacher, is common for weddings. The first part is cut off, but it is to symbolize the tortise and the crane, symbols of luck. when the fan is thrust straight upwards, this symbolizes a tree (matsu), and the following part, where we turn around and have the fan under our elbows symbolizes bamboo (take). In the following part, the fan is flipped closed over and over, like a rope pulling the audience to us. then the finger and the the fan each symbolize two people coming together. It's difficult to explain in depth ^_^; Tags: kotobuki japanese dance gaijin |
