The hostage drama in a European capital unaccustomed to violent crime ended when police snipers fired at the robbers after two hostages managed to escape from their captors inside the branch. Police had cordoned off the site on Thursday afternoon and tried for hours to negotiate the release of the hostages before the violent end to the attempted robbery. One of the robbers was killed and the other was taken to hospital.
